Jeep:Radiator fan won't turn off

Engine Cooling Fan will run Non-stop forever

Even with ignition off the fan runs non-stop.

These drains the battery in few hours.

Problem noticed in 1998 Jeep Cherokee

If the fan is running, these clears that fuse is OK.Because if fuse is blown, the fan will not turn ON.

The doubt goes on cooling fan relay. The relay is got bypassed.

The fan relay is likely shorted and keeping the fan motor energize
To check this you can remove the relays from the fuse panel
Remove the cooling fan rely from the underhood fuse box

See below Power distribution center fuse box diagram shown below:----

1998 Jeep Cherokee Fuse box

underhood fuse box

You have to see the section marked "C" which is the Cooling Fan Relay

the relay is a square black plastic box, the relay/fuse box is next to the battery. It is a long (10" x 5") black box with a plastic cover that swings up from one of the long ends.
Pull the relay out and see if Fan stops running or not.

Beside radiator cooling fan relay there are many other relays too, insert that relays in place of cooling fan relay and see if fan functions right or not.

But if you swap the relay and same issue with new relay or another relay too, then another possibility is faulty ignition switch. These is because when you turn on the ignition the fan relay and other relay gets power,if the ignition switch is off then another relay should not get power.Test voltage at ignition switch with ignition off,no volt should be there. If yes then ignition switch is faulty causing the problem.

These details will help.
Thanks.

OBD Code P1490 low speed fan relay ckt open-short

No Coolant Fan running on Chrysler Vehicle

When these problem occurs you get OBD code P1490

These coolant  fan has 2 speeds. High and low speeds. These speeds are controlled by its respective relays. There are two relays. One controls high and other controls low.
There are 3 wires at the fan motor. One is ground for both fan motor speeds and the other 2 are for the high and low speeds.
To confirm the problem try these give 12 volt power from another battery source like from cig lighter or from fuse connector or from battery positive supply.Run a direct wire from 12 volt source to the fan supply wire and see if the fan starts running or not.

You have to supply power to one of the speeds and see if the fan works. You can verify it by checking the other speed as well to insure it does work on one of the speeds and that you are checking it correctly. If one of the speeds does not work then the fan will need to be replaced.

See below coolant fan and fan relay wiring diagram :-----

The yellow wire is the high speed and the green is the low speed.
Give power to each wire one by one and see if fan runs on both sped or not.It should run,if its not running then faulty fan.If it runs then its confirm that actual fan wiring is short or faulty in between. So you can get it rewired to solve the problem.

1995Dodge Caravan: Procedure to Replace A/C Condenser Fan?

Replacing details and procedure for Air-conditioner Condenser Fan Assembly.

If you only need to replace fan then its very simple.
you have to pull it up some, tilt it downward, lift up, tilt down, lift up and out.

But for replacing condenser Assembly.

There are 2 ways. Either unbolt and remove the radiator, or remove the front grill and bumper cover. The Removing radiator is easier of the 2 methods to replace condenser.

you can remove the fan, unbolt the radiator, remove transmission lines and hoses from it and lift up enough to come off mountings at bottom and lean against engine and squeeze the condensor out.

you are not going to get it out without at least doing that much. if you elect not to do that, you will be spending a few hours fighting to get it out without success.

Labor time to replace is 2.1 hours, so it isnt a simple unbolt the condensor lines and pull out.

This details will help.
Thanks.

Replace Fan Relay but still Radiator cooling fans not working?

Radiator cooling fans runs when engine over heats and temperature gauge rises.
Verify that the fans work by unplugging them and run jumper wires to the fan(s) from the battery, and not from the other fan or anywhere else. If they run, your problem lies elsewhere. If either does not run, it's the motor.
The PCM commands Low Speed Fans ON under the following conditions:
• The engine coolant temperature exceeds approximately 106°C (223°F). • The A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1310 kPa (190 psi). • The vehicle is shut off when the engine coolant temperature is greater than 140°C (284°F) and system voltage is more than 12 volts. The fans will stay ON for approximately 3 minutes. The PCM commands High Speed Fans on under the following conditions:
• The engine coolant temperature reaches 110°C (230°F). • The A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1655 kPa (240 psi). • When certain DTCs set. The primary fan (Fan#1) is protected by a 30amp fuse and the secondary fan (Fan#2) has 15 amp. So it's not surprising the secondary fan fuse blew when you connected the primary fan on the secondary connector. On a V6 engine, there is additional ground fuse (30amp) for the secondary fan circuit, also at the underhood fuse block.
The information above shows the two modes of operation of the cooling fans, as to when they should work, so that you may have better understanding. Since you have changed all the 3 cooling fan relays, you should also check the fuses, the power, ground, and the condition of the fan connectors.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the on and off of the relays, depending on the inputs provided by the engine coolant sensor (ECT) and a/c pressure sensor.
At low speed mode (106degC), Fan#1 relay clicks on, and both fans will work at low speed. In case one of the fans is defective, the other will not spin as well. If left on this condition, naturally the engine will get hotter, until it reaches 110degC which will be the high speed turn-on point.
At high speed mode, the other 2 relays will also click on. This time each fan motor will receive full 12v power and expected to roar at high speed.
The condition of the coolant, the ECT sensor, and the PCM itself plays an important role in the proper operation of the cooling fans. A faulty ECT sensor will not give the proper signals to the PCM, and a faulty PCM may not give the required control signals that it's programmed to be.
In case of an ECT or PCM issues, a scan tool can effectively monitor the signals coming from this components. As for the rest of the circuit, you can check it the usual conventional method.

This details will help you.
