Modern high-speed internet connections are made using DSL or cable modems. In general, most DSL modems also act as routers, but not too many cable modems act like a router.
Some internet connection basics: Every device connected to the internet has an IP (Internet Protocol) address. The address consists of 4 groups of up to 3 numbers each. They would look like this: 123.111.36.145 (0 is the smallest number and 255 is the largest you will see). When you connect to the internet, you are assigned an IP address by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). When you hook up your computer
to the modem, the signal is passed through the device to your computer and the device's IP address becomes your address. This is not secure, as the "bad guys" could type your IP address into their machine and theoretically see your computer and access all your data.
Connecting with your modem: Modems come with a CD nowadays. Running the setup CD makes connecting quite easy. With a DSL modem, you normally have to provide a username and password to log on. Cable modems generally rely on the cable connection to your house to recognize who you are and when you run the setup CD, you are automatically connected.
The router: The purpose of this device is twofold--one is to take the signal you get from your ISP and send it to a number of computers in your home network. The second purpose is to take the IP address and send it to a different address on each computer. This acts as a "firewall" in that the IP address assigned to your computer is no longer the address of the computer. Those bad guys trying to hack into your system will have a much more difficult time.
Types of routers: There are wired routers capable only of hooking up computers with ethernet cable within a network. There are wireless routers--normally these have 4 wired ports and a set of antennas. These function will in a mixed environment of wired and wireless computers. Most people these days are using wireless routers.

how to set router?
This tip assumes that you have a working internet connection and you are able to get online.
Wired routers: Wired routers can have any number of Local Area Network (LAN) ports and one Wide Area Network (WAN) port. They usually are labeled that way, although the WAN port may say Internet. Whatever it says, your internet connection will go from your DSL or Cable modem to the WAN port. The computers on your network will each be hooked into their own LAN port. Don't worry too much about the length of the cable to hook up the computers. Ethernet cable can usually run up to 1500'.
In order to make your connection work there is no software involved. Just make the connection between the modem and the router and then the router to the computer. I would then recommend you power down the router, the modem, and the computer. First turn on the modem, then the router, then start the computer. For the normal computer that has not had a special network setup this should be all you need.
Wireless routers: These routers are set up for wired networks just the same as wired routers. This will take care of up to four computers. In order to set up the wireless capability, you will have to be connected to the router from your computer. Sometimes it's easy to use the setup CD that came with the device.
First be sure your router is connected to the modem and your computer is connected via ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports on the router. Put the CD in and let it run. It should take you through the setup, although it may prompt you to restart the modem.
If your network has been running and you wish to set up the router by hand, that is possible. First you need to determine the address (IP) of the router. You'll need it to "talk to" the router. The procedure listed below should work for most routers made for the consumer.
For Windows XP, use your mouse to click the START button and then the "RUN" menu option. When the white rectangle opens, type CMD and press ENTER. A black window will open up and you will see the blinking cursor. Type IPCONFIG and press ENTER.
You should see several IP addresses and maybe some more information. You can scroll up and down in that window. Look for the value of the Default Gateway. It should be something like 192.168.1.0. This is the address of your router.
For Windows Visa and Windows 7, the procedure is the same except the white rectangle where you type CMD will appear directly above the START button as soon as you click on it.
Once you have written down the gateway address, close the black window and open your web browser. In the address bar, where you usually type the address of a web page, put the router address. Note: Put the address only. No WWW or anything else. Once you put in the address and press ENTER, you should be looking at the logon screen for your router. You will most likely be asked for a username and password. What you enter depends on the make of router. For instance, a Linksys usually has no username and a password of "admin". A D-Link has a username of "admin" but no password. Netgear has a username of "admin" and a password of "password". You can refer to your documentation on the device or look it up on the manufacturer's site. You might be thinking of changing the username and password once you set up your wireless network--If I can tell what it is from here, so can many other people!

no sound coming from speakers ?
If you hear no sound coming from your speakers, there could be several reasons:
1) Check to see if the speakers are powered on.
2) Check to see if the cable is plugged into the speakers and the green jack in the back of the computer.
3) Check to see if the speakers are muted in Windows. Do this by clicking on the speaker icon in the system tray. It has a place to check to mute the speakers.
4) Check to see if the sound devices and drivers are loaded. To do this go to the control panel and click on "sound." Then click on the sound tab. Choose one of the Windows events that has a sound associated with it and preview the sound by clicking on the arrow to the right of the listing. If the arrow is dark and when you click on it the sound seems to be playing, then the drivers and sound card should be functional. If the arrow is grayed out, then your sound drivers are not installed. In either case, try reinstalling the sound drivers.
5) If you've tried all this to no avail, try with another set of speakers.
6) One thing that may work is to do a system restore back to the time the speakers were working.
7) If nothing works, I would suspect that you have a bad sound card. Unfortunately, these days sound is integrated into the motherboard, but you could install an add-on sound card.

How to Copy songs from iPod to your PC?
-- Connect the iPod with your PC. Close iTunes if it opens up automatically after connecting iPod.
-- Go to Control Panel-> portable Media Devices/devices and printers-> Double click on your iPod or right click and select "Browse Files" option.
-- Navigate to the iPod_control folder/Music Folder.
-- Select all the folders over there and copy all the folders and paste it on your hard drive or directly into iTunes. If nothing is visible then go to Control Panel -> folder options -> View Tab-> Show hidden file/folder/drives.
-- The iPod music folder structure is very strange, however if you copy the folder content into iTunes you can arrange/organize the music files by selecting "Keep iTunes Music Folder organized". You can do this by in iTunes Edit menu-> Preferences -> Advanced tab-> check Keep iTunes Music Folder organized.

How does aperture setting affect a photograph?
The aperture is the opening in the lens through which light passes to the image sensor. Changing the aperture setting allows you to control the depth of a photograph. When the aperture is opened to a widersetting, (indicated by a lower f-stop number) more light is passed to the imagesensor, creating more shallow depth of field. Closing the aperture (indicatedby a higher f-stop number) allows less light to pass to the image sensor,creating wider depth of field.

Sony ebook Reader is Frozen, Not charging?
The Sony Reader used a special type of display; the LCD can retain an image without having power. It takes power while changing the pages. In most of the cases, if the power is fully discharged, the LCD will keep the last image that was displayed it makes an impression that the Reader is frozen. However, the Actual thing is, the screen retains the last image on the screen and there is no power to change the pages. These type of situations can be resolved by charging the Reader sufficiently.
Each step in my solution is a possible resolution. Hence I suggest thatyou perform each step and check the operation.

- Charge the battery fully by connecting to a computer or by using a compatible AC Adaptor. It may take a few minutes (up to 15 minutes) to displaythe charging symbol if the Reader is fully drained in its last use.
- Once the reader is charged fully (at least 45 minutes), slide the power button to turn ON.
- Perform a softreset. We can perform a soft reset by pressing the reset button on the Reader.
- After the RESET button has been pressed, slide the POWER switch to activate the Reader device again. If the Indicator light nextto the power button on the Reader device is yellow, the unit is attempting to start up. If this is the case, allow it a few moments to complete startup.
- If the Reader is still not charging up properly, connect the Reader to computer or AC Adaptorand then press the reset button.
- Disconnect the Reader device from the computer (if applicable) and then slide the POWER switch to activate the Readerdevice. Check if the Indicator light next to the powerswitch on the Reader device is yellow (indicating it is turning on) and if the unit is responding.
If the unit isstill frozen, connect it again to the computer or AC adapter and while connected,check if the Indicator light next to the power switch on the Reader device is red. If this light is red , allow the Reader device tocharge for one hour sothere is sufficient charge for troubleshooting.
If the issue persists, perform a hard reset to resolve the issue. Please follow the steps to perform a hard reset:
Under certain circumstances, moisture condensation can occur. Moisture condensation can becaused by moving the Reader device between temperature extremes or if theReader device has come in direct contact with moisture. If you suspect moistureas the cause, allow the Reader device to sit for a few hours before attempting to turn it back on.
