2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Diesel: Oil Leak issues?

The oil leak is noticed between Vacuum Pump and Power steering Pump.

Yes many others too have noticed this.

First understand the theory.

There is an insert/sleeve of sorts right behind the seal that is in the rear of the vacuum pump.

The insert/sleeve should be pulled out along with the seal out the rear of the vacuum pump and then the new seal installed and then the insert/sleeve should be re-installed.

There is a seal kit for the vacuum pump. You have to remove the vacuum and poower steering pumps and replace the seals. The kit is available at auto parts store. It costs $104, there are instructions in the kit.To follow the procedure.

Some users only replace the faulty seal, instead of replacing all seals.
As per there say,why to replace all seals when only one or two are worn out and faulty. At local parts store one seal costs approx $7 and complete kit comes for $104.

But i suggest replacing all seals.Because first getting faulty is indication, that others are also nearing towards end.But still if you get confirmed that other seals are still good, then replacing only the faulty seal is not a bad idea.

You will still need the gasket between the vacuum pump and the timing cover, and I beleive another seal for when you disassemble the vacuum pump, plus the shaft seal. That is why everything comes in a kit.

To remove the pump follow the instructions mentioned below:---------
Here are the instructions on removing the pump. After  the pump is out remove the boltls that hold the pump together, seperate the pump halves. Drive the seal out by using a socket and hammer, drive the seal out with the pump drive rotor. Clean it all up, put the pump drive back in, drive the new seal in, and reassemble.

REMOVAL

Disconnect battery negative cables.
Position drain pan under power steering pump.
Disconnect vacuum and steering pump hoses.
Disconnect lubricating oil feed line from fitting at underside of vacuum pump
Remove lower bolt that attaches pump assembly to engine block
Remove bottom, inboard nut that attaches adapter to steering pump. This nut secures a small bracket to engine block. Nut and bracket must be removed before pump assembly can be removed from block.
Remove upper bolt that attaches pump assembly to engine block
Remove pump assembly from vehicle.

NOTE: The vacuum pump and adapter are serviced as an assembly and must not be seperated.
Remove the remaining three power steering pump to adapter mounting nuts
Gently, remove the steering pump from the adapter. Use caution not to damage the oil seal in the adapter body .
NOTE: Make sure the two pump spacers are present before assembling power steering pump to adapter.
Aline the steering pump drive dog with the slot in the vacuum pump drive assembly, slide the steering pump into place on the adapter.Use care not to damage the oil seal in the adapter body.
Install the three steering pump to adapter nuts, do not install the lower inboard mounting nut at this time. Tighten nuts to 24 N·m (18 ft. lbs.).
Position new gasket on vacuum pump mounting flange Use Mopar® Perfect Seal, or silicone adhesive/sealer to hold gasket in place.
Insert pump assembly upper attaching bolt in mounting flange and gasket. Use sealer or grease to hold bolt in place if necessary.
Position pump assembly on engine and install upper bolt Tighten upper bolt only enough to hold assembly in place at this time.
Working from under vehicle, install pump assembly lower attaching bolt. Then tighten upper and lower bolt to 77 N·m (57 ft. lbs.).
Position bracket on steering pump inboard stud. Then install remaining adapter attaching nut on stud. Tighten nut to 24 N·m (18 ft. lbs.).
Connect oil feed line to vacuum pump connector and tighten line fitting.
Connect steering pump pressure and return lines to pump. Tighten pressure line fitting to 30 N·m (22 ft. lbs.).
Connect vacuum hose to vacuum pump.
Connect battery cables, if removed.
Fill power steering pump reservoir and Purge air from steering pump lines

Honda Headlight Assembly Removal

The procedure for Old model Honda HeadLight assembly Removal.

In this chapter the details and help diagrams are also provided for Pre-1995 after 1995 and Latest Honda Head light bulb removal and diagrams. Please View that also. This will give you complete idea about what difference is there between today's Honda Headlamp assembly and old model Honda Head Lamp assemblies.

The complete detailed step by step procedure.

The details covers MAIN TOPIC Honda Accord/Prelude 1984-1995.
AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS FOR Honda/Prelude after 1995 and very Latest headlamp difference.

The Front Bumper has to be removed, that gives you complete and easiest access to replace headlight assembly.

Dont pull Headlight assembly, once you view it.There are delicate connectors that are to be disconnected first. Its a plug in/plug out type wire connectors.First disconnect the connectors, then remove screws and you can now remove complete headlight assembly.

Headlights

First Know and Understand About the Bulb/Headlamps:---

There are two general styles of headlamps, the sealed beam and replaceable bulb type. The sealed beam is by far the most common and includes almost all of the circular and rectangular lamps found on vehicles built through the 1980s. The sealed beam is so named because it includes the lamp (filament), the reflector and the lens in one sealed unit. Sealed beams are available in several sizes and shapes. All Honda vehicles covered in this information except the 1990-95 Accord and 1992-95 Prelude use sealed beam headlights. These latest Accords and Preludes use replaceable bulbs in fixed housings.

NOW GO THROUGH THE
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Sealed Beams.
To understand the procedure
See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
FIG : Fig. 1: Headlamp mounting on 1984-85 Accords

Fig. 2: Headlamp mounting on 1986-89 Accords and 1984-91 Preludes
old model headlight system

CAUTION:--- Most headlight retaining rings and trim bezels have very sharp edges. Wear gloves. Never pry or push on a headlamp; it can shatter suddenly.Go slow and do it carefully.

Some car models have popping up or spring retracting headlamps.

On cars with pop-up or retracting headlamps, turn the ignition switch OFF . Operate the retractor switch on the dash to bring the headlight doors up. The headlights should be off when the doors are up.
Remove the headlight bezel (trim).

On 1984-85 Accord, the trim involves the one piece lamp surround and corner molding.

honda headlamp

Fig. 3: Remove the screws securing the headlight bezel

The sealed beam is held in place by a retainer and either 2 or 4 small screws. Identify these screws before applying any tools. Do not confuse the small retaining screws with the larger aiming screws. There will be two aiming screws or adjustors for each lamp. (One adjustor controls the up/down motion and the other controls the left/right motion.) Identify the adjustors and avoid them during removal. If they are not disturbed, the new headlamp should be in identical aim to the old one.
Using a small screwdriver (preferably magnetic) and a pair of needle-nose pliers if necessary, remove the small screws in the headlamp retainer.

headlight retaining ring

Fig. 4: Remove the screws securing the retaining ring. Be sure not to disturb the adjusting screws

A HELPFUL TIP:---A good kitchen or household magnet placed on the shank of the screwdriver will provide enough grip to hold the screw during removal.

Remove the retainer and the headlamp may be gently pulled free from its mounts. Detach the connector from the back of the sealed beam unit and remove the unit from the car.

Fig. 5: Remove the retaining ring ...

disconnect headlamp connector
Fig. 6: ... then unplug the connector from the back of the lamp. Be sure to transfer the rubber boot to the new lamp

FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE
To install:
Once the old faulty bulb/lamp is removed out.now its tiome to install new headlamp.please buy exact bulb. There are many quality bulb available. But the exact bulb, which is supporting your cars headlight assembly.
  1. Place the new headlamp in position and connect the wiring harness. Remember to install the rubber boot on the back of the new lamp. Also, make sure the headlight is right-side up.
  2. Have an assistant turn on the headlights and check the new lamp for proper function, checking both high and low beams before final assembly.
  3. Install the retainer and the small screws that secure it.
  4. Reinstall the headlight trim. The procedure is done.

NOW THE PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED ON
  1. Replaceable Bulb HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY

For more help please view  Figure 7 which is shown below:----
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Raise and prop the hood.
Remove any components necessary to access the lamp.

Fig. 7: Late model Accords and Preludes are equipped with replaceable bulb headlamps
just remove the screws,,the assembly will pull out.

There are three flanges that attach to the Honda, two beneath the lamp and one on the side near the signal lense. The diagram shows bullet like or bolts that go into the flanges. You  need to remove the bolts through the flanges before pulling assembly.
honda headlamp
    TO BE FOLLOWED SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:----
Unplug the connector from the back of the lamp. The connector may be very tight and require wiggling to loosen; support the lamp while with your other hand while wiggling the connector loose. Turn the retaining ring counterclockwise, then pull the bulb from the lamp housing.

  1. FOLLOW THIS INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:------------ To install:

  2. WARNING:=====
  3. Hold the new bulb by the base; do not touch the glass part with fingers or gloves. The grease left on the glass will form hot spots and shorten the life of the bulb. If the glass is accidentally touched, clean the glass with alcohol.
Install the new bulb. Make certain all three guide tabs fit into their correct slots. Turn the ring clockwise to lock it in place. Engage the wiring connector firmly. Connect the negative battery cable and turn the headlights on. Check both high and low beam function. Reinstall any components removed for lamp access.

Also see this Diagram Showing Today's Latest Model Headlight Assembly.
The Front bumper fender has to be out.

On this latest model that is after 2000 to 2008 year models.
It shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes or so to get the bumper off, there will be 16 push pins to remove, 4 bolts, and 2 screws, nothing too difficult. Once you have all of the fasteners out you just pull out on the back of the bumper near the wheels, it'll pop out of the groove it sits in.
First you'll need to remove the front bumper, this illustration will show you all the fasteners you'll need to remove.

bumper removal diagram

Once you have the bumper off it's pretty straight forward to remove the headlamp assembly. just remove the bolts as shown in this illustration.

remove Honda headlight

Now once you have the headlamp unbolted. Then all basics needs to be follows that is  unplug the connectors, remove it and install the new headlamp assembly, replacing all of the bolts you removed, then reinstall the bumper.

This details will help.
Thanks.

2004 Dodge Intrepid: How to replace Thermostat?

Where is thermostat located and how to replace it.

Its not a easy procedure to replace thermostat.

If you have a faulty thermostat, your engine will either overheat or not get hot enough.

The thermostat is located on the lower left side of the engine closer to the front of the engine.
To replace thermostat you will need to put it on a hoist and probably remove the engine mount and/or alternator to get to the thermostat housing. That's the only access to replace thermostat.

See the diagram shown below for thermostat location :----

This details will help.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited: KeyFob Remote Not Working?

Key less remote not working.
There are few possibilities that can cause the problem.

In the remote there is a battery.First replace the battery and see if problem goes away.IF no,then it can be faulty remote or it can be issue with remote lost its connection with vehicles receiver or there is faulty fuse, which controls this system.

I will explain each problem as you read further:----

WHERE IS THE FUSE WHICH CONTROLS THE KEYFOB REMOTE:----

It looks like it is fed via FUSE #16 15A that is located in the Power Distribution Center. This Fuse supplies power to other components such as : cargo lamp switch, underhood lamp, courtesy lamps, cluster, radio.

The Power Distribution Center is located under the hood.

See the fuse diagram shown below:----
jeep Cherokee fuse box diagram

IF FUSE CHECKS OUT OK,THEN GIVE DETAILS FOR OTHER POSSIBILITIES:---
The very first thing to do is to check whether your remote works or not. Unfortunately there is no way to check it without using special TPM-RKE analyzer CH9936 that any Chrysler dealer should have. This is very useful analyzer that tells in a second if a remote is good or not. If remote is OK, then for some reason it could be lost from the receiver memory and needs to be programmed with a special DRB III scan tool.

If you have 2 keyfob remotes then it will be good to confirm the problem with remote or its receiver issue.
By remote I mean a key-fob. If both remote transmitters do not work, then it sounds like a Remote Keyless Entry module/receiver failure. Check all fuses to be sure it gets power/
If this fuse is blown, just replace it with the same rating 15A fuse. If it pops up again, then you have a short circuit somewhere and it needs to be diagnosed and fixed.

This all details will help.
Thanks.

2008 Dodge Avenger: OBD Code P0073?

OBD Scan Test Showed Error Code P0073.

If you dont have Scan tool then also you can retrieve the codes manually.
There is a simple procedure.

Here it is:------

Get in the vehicle, and close all the doors. Now  Cycle the ignition to  ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON within 5 seconds. Where the odometer is, should now be displayed p-codes. The Code starts with P and then 4 number will be shown one by one.
That is the error code.

Now As for OBD Error Code P0073, this p-code is fairly straight forward, and is pointing to a fault with the Ambient Temp Sensor (this is used for the heating/air conditioning systems). This Sensor is Located in front of right front tire.
This sensor has to be replaced.

If the sensor is replaced and still the Error code is not getting cleared, then  the next step is to carefully inspect the electrical connector and as far up the harness as you possibly can.
More than likely, there will be a broken or rubbed through wire somewhere.Which is noticed in many such cases. Make sure the wires are tight and not damaged at the electrical connector as well.
If  you see no issue with the wiring ,then other possibility is  that when the sensor was damaged, there was damage done to the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) as this is the unit that controls this Ambient Temp Sensor.

Unfortunately, to test the TIPM will require the use of a scan tool and voltage meter.

See the diagram shown below for part location:---------

Ambient Air Temperature Sensor

For Exact location of the TIPM module See the diagram shown below:-------

1998 Dodge Ram: Not Shift To Reverse?

Forward gears works fine, but transmission will not shift in reverse mode.

In such cases:---
First try basics.

First check transmission fluid. If its low or dirty.Replace it with new Fluid.

Second check if you get an Noise while you shift to reverse gear.Shift in reverse and see which part you hear noise.Inspect that part.

In some cases its seal issues in that case  you can do is add seafoam to the transmission.
But please note the seafoam will only help if  there is a seal issue.
Mostly what happens is that the alcohol in the additive will "Swell" the seals allowing them to seal and engage the clutches.Since that didn't help and you have no noise you could be dealing with a clutch issue.
The clutch needs complete inspection.
Unfortunantly there is no quick easy fix for this issue, and it will need to be removed in order to repair it.
Also double check if you could install a pressure guage to the rear servo port on the side of transmission to verify that it is in fact getting the pressure needed to engage reverse.

For Exact Clutch assembly parts location,Please view the help Diagram shown below:-----
servo port

There is test procedure to rectify the issue and problem.
Exactly what part in the transmission/ clutch system is causing the problem.

Follow this test to confirm the issue with NO-Reverse Problem:-------

NO REVERSE (D RANGES
OK)

  • Gearshift Linkage/Cable Mis-adjusted/Damaged.
In this case :  Repair or replace linkage parts as needed.

  • Park Sprag Sticking.
In this case : Replace overdrive annulus gear.

  • Rear Band Mis-adjusted/Worn.
In this case :   Adjust band; replace.

  • Valve Body Malfunction.
In this case : Remove and service valve body. Replace valve body if any valves or valve bores are
worn or damaged.

  •  Rear Servo Malfunction.
In this case :  Remove and disassemble transmission. Replace worn/damaged servo parts as
necessary.

  • Direct Clutch in Overdrive Worn.
In this case: Disassemble overdrive. Replace worn or damaged parts.

  •  Front Clutch Burnt.
In this case : Remove and disassemble transmission.Replace worn, damaged clutch parts as required.

2003 Chevrolet ACH: Location of Expansion Tube?

On 2003 Chevy Model.
The expansion block/orifice tube is located inside the evaporator tube. You will need a special tool: J 26549-E Orifice Tube Remover - to remove the orifice tube from the evaporator tube.
You can usually rent this tool from any local "big chain" parts store.

For location of Expansion tube, see the diagram shown below:----

Also see orifice tube connection to evaporation tube diagram:----

This details and diagrams will help.
Thanks.
