2003 Dodge Ram: Faulty PCM no start?

The vehicle is not starting.There are many possibilities for this types of problem.
But if all checked ok,then its issue with the brain that cause no start problem.PCM means the brain of the vehicle.Also known as power control module.

Check the fuses,the ignition relay and other relays in fuse box.

If check engine light is ON,then scan for error codes.If no codes are coming up then PCM can be the issue.


To confirm the PCM is faulty, it can only be checked when the vehicle dies and wont start and doesnt make a sound.

On the PCM, there are 3 connectors - white, grey, black.

On the black connector, first back probe the dark green with black stripe wire at connecter terminal #22 for power. If no power, then it is being lost between the battery and the PCM.

If power, then check terminal #2, light green with black stripe for 12v going out. If 12v not present, then replace the PCM.

If 12v present, then  check for 12v at the ignition switch

This is rare problem,but noticed by few Chevy users.The car will not start and has no spark,when the clutch is pushed the CLS /PCM fuse blows out.


That fuse that kept blowing is a direct wire to the PCM. Below is a picture of one of the connectors at the PCM. I have marked the pin number that you need to check. Make sure you're getting power at that pin number (it's a pink wire). Also below is a picture of a main ground for the circuit that the fuse was blowing. Also is a picture of the connector that that ground wire goes through. It's a black and white wire. Also I see you said you got a new computer. Did you have it or was it flashed for your vehicle ?






Sounds like pcm or wiring has a short causing fuse to blow. Maybe try another pcm.
You could also remove the alternator and have it bench tested at autozone or advance auto parts or your local auto parts store. This will tell you if the alternator is blown.This details will help.

How to test PCM( POWER CONTROL MODULE) for Ford 4.6l Engine?

Testing car pcm is not an easy task.But if you have proper diagram and procedure ,you can go for testing the ford vehicle pcm.

Do it at the connector on the PCM. You need to do it at the back of the connector by pushing a straight pin in beside the wire so it makes contact with the metal tip of the pin. If you get  no ground pulse then unplug the connector and visually inspect for pin damage in the connector or PCM. If none are found then its a bad PCM. This test is checking the wiring between the coil and PCM.

You need to check for ignition coil ground pulse right at the PCM and inspect the pin that contacts the PCM to see if its damaged. If you get the same result, no ground pulse there as well then you have a faulty PCM driver which means you need a new PCM. See the Ford diagrams below to help you.
