1999 Lexus RX300: Engine idles low and stalls in morning?

The Engine idles very low while start up in the morning.Also a stalling is noticed.
But once the engine warms up is starts and runs fine.

In this types of problem there are several possible causes for low idle/stalling when engine is cold - low fuel pressure, vacuum leak, faulty coolant temperature sensor, faulty Throttle Position sensor, faulty mass air flow sensor, sticking throttle body throat plate.

To find out which of the above is the cause, you will need to leave the vehicle overnight with a shop so that they can test it with a diagnostic scanner when cranking the next morning and engine is cold. They wont be able to test it after having driven straight to them as the engine will be warmed up and nothing will show as wrong.

If you are going to do the testing, you will need to do it first thing before its being driven and will need a fuel pressure gage, a voltmeter and scan tool to test the above mentioned possible causes.

Erratic Idle?

Erratic idle noticed when engine idling.

Many clients come to our garage with problem of Erratic Idle:

The possibilities to inspect ion this case is as follows :----

1 Inspect M.A.P. Sensor.
A Faulty M.A.P. Sensor can cause idle issues.

2 Inspect EGR Valve.
Improperly Functioning or Faulty EGR Valve can cause erratic idle.

3 Inspect Fuel Injector .
Dirty or Worn Fuel Injectors can cause idle problems.

4 Inspect Idle Air Control Valve.
Damaged, Loose, or Faulty Idle Air Control Valve can cause idle issues.

5 Inspect Idle Speed Actuator.
Damaged, Loose, or Faulty Idle Speed Actuator has to be checked.

6 Inspect Throttle Position Sensor.
Faulty or Incorrectly Connected Throttle Position Sensor is one possibility for erratic idle.

7 Inspect Fuel Filter.
A Clogged or Dirty Fuel Filter causes erratic idle.

8 Inspect PCV Valve.
If PVC valve is Plugged or Damaged erratic idle will be noticed.

9 Inspect Carburetor on vehicle model with carb.
A Worn, Faulty or Damaged Carburetor can also cause erratic idle.

10 Inspect Valve.
A Burned, Worn, or Sticking Exhaust Valves are causes of major erratic idle.

12 Inspect Timing Set.
Slipped Timing Chain or Worn TimingGear(s) are issues of Erratic idle.

13 Inspect Fuel Pump.
A Faulty Fuel Pump can cause erratic idle.

14 Inspect Camshaft.
Erratic idle due to Camshaft Lobes Worn.

15 Inspect Ignition Point Set.
If Burned, Worn or Incorrectly Set Ignition Points.The idle problems will be noticed.

Location of Freeze Plug on 1998 Ford Expedition?

A freeze plug, also known as an expansion plug, is installed in a vehicle's liquid-cooled engine block to protect against damage to the block by freezing. If the coolant is diluted excessively by water, it may expand and freeze in extremely cold conditions, causing damage to the engine block.There are plugs on both the driver's and passenger's side of the engine block and both cylinder heads [outboard side of each head]. There are also several plugs located in the rear of the block. The transmission must be removed to access these rear plugs. You should have changed your antifreeze more often!

Car water leak around the Starter area and Bell Housing?

This problem is very much noticed by many car models.A proper troubleshooting is required.
First check for any coolant hose above the leak area. Next, look for "soft plugs" located in the cylinder head near the leak. Usually these are very hard or impossible to see, as they are covered by the exhaust manifold. You might have to remove the exhaust manifold to see them. There are also a number of soft plugs located in the rear of the engine block, and on both sides of the block [iron blocks only]
If you have a leaking soft plug, the best bet is to replace all of them. Why? Because you have neglected changing your antifreeze in a timely manner. Now it's time to pay the price for that negligence. All the soft plugs will be rotted about the same amount. If you only replace one now, you will be replacing more of them in the coming weeks and months.

Car dies when gas pedal is pressed?

This problems are very much noticed by car drivers,

The engine dies the moment you hit the accelerator.This engine has automatic idle speed control, the computer controls a "air bypass" valve on the side of the throttle body where the air intake hose from the air cleaner is connected, the valve and the throttle butterfly get "slugged" up and this causes all kinds of idle problems and off idle stall, see full list below and fix for the problems

Here is the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours.
To correct this problem Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speed control problems you may need to seek the help of a professional.You also should have the fuel pressure tested, very low fuel pressure can cause this as well, the pressure should be 42-46 PSI, about 50 PSI when you gun the engine quickly, it should NEVER GO DOWN, if it does you have a clogged fuel filter or a defective fuel pump in the fuel tank.
