How to Know what is faulty Cylinder head or Head gasket?

You cannot detect that easily. You are driving and you see white smoke from exhaust. This basically makes you think, what exactly is faulty. But i tell, you cannot know this without inspecting.Don't just replace parts, without confirming.
A cracked cylinder head or a failed gasket can only be identified after the head has been removed.(both give the same symptoms).
Generally the head won't crack by itself and the gasket fails first. Once you have the head removed you can bring it to a machine shop and they can test (either dye, pressure test, or magnaflux) to determine the condition of the head.(you can't always see cracks) It should also be checked for warpage and re-surfaced if it is.We are never sure if the problem is the gasket or a cracked head until the head is removed and pressure tested for a crack. Oftentimes, we remove the head carefully to preserve the gasket as much as possible so that we can inspect the gasket for leaks. If it is obvious that the gasket was leaking based on visual observation of breaks in the gasket, then we may skip the pressure test and just replace the gasket; however, there is no way of knowing until the head is off the engine.

This details will help.Thanks.

Replace both.
Yes, you can just do one head gasket, although I wouldn't recommend it.
If the head gasket has failed, it's usually because the engine has overheated. If you know that the engine has overheated, it would be best to do both heads.
When an engine overheats, the head warps a little. It doesn't take much to change the internal pressures on the gasket, and when the gasket area between the cylinders starts to lighten up a little, the gasket fails.
To do the job properly, take the head(s) to a qualified automotive machine shop and have the head resurfaced. Even a slightly warped head will be unable to keep a head gasket.
After a head has been resurfaced, it's relatively easy to put it back together.
NOTE!!
The machine shop will tell you the proper torque and torque sequence. Usually start from the center and work your way out evenly, going from side to side, and top to bottom, but get specific information for YOUR engine from the machine shop.
NEVER replace a head gasket without having the head resurfaced.

Water in engine oil?

Head gasket issue,it has to be inspected.
When there is water in the oil (or oil in the water) this is a sign of a head gasket that is leaking. You will need to have the head removed and then the gasket replaced with a new one. There is nothing else that can be done to stop the water from reaching the oil now that your head gasket is blown.Replacing the head gasket is advisable.Buy branded and original parts, instead on low quality non branded parts. The original OEM parts are bit costly, but they last long and give good results.
This will help.Thanks.

Leaking head gaskets?

Its head gasket problem. It has to be inspected and replaced.
If you have leaking head gaskets in your cooling system you will have to remove the head gasket. You will need to remove the head bolt and remove the old head gaskets. Be sure to note the length of the head bolts in case some are long or short so you can replace them in the correct place. Fit in the new head gasket, replace the bolts, and torque to the factory specifications.
This details will help.Thanks.

Temperature gauge went up?

Temperature gauge went up?

Very common problem, lots of car user facing this.
Get the coolant level checked, get the Coolant temperature sensor checked.Do you notice any overheating?
If all this checked ok,then head gasket is issue.
The problem is usually the head gasket. This will cause refrigerant being vaporized inside the engine, loss of compression and overheating.
Same symptoms can be caused by a cracked engine block, but this second fault is far less common.
If the problem is the head gasket, better replacing the gasket rather than the whole block. If the replacement is done by a trained and experienced mechanic, the engine will be fine after the repair.
Replacing the head gasket is not a difficult job, but it takes a lot of work and quite enough time. All fluids must be bleed, the air intake, valve cover, timing cover, belt and head must be removed to replace the head gasket. The head gasket itself is not an expensive part. Labor to replace the gasket is expensive.
If the head gasket is the problem, better replacing the head gasket. Replacing the engine is more expensive, and you do not get any warranty about possible second hand engine block failures.
This details will help.
Thanks.

Should i only replace head gaskets or complete head gasket assembly on Ford Taurus?

Complete head gasket assembly. But first get the head gasket problem confirmed.Don't just replace any part, without confirmation.

If you go to any good parts store (Autozone, Advance, etc...) buy a head gasket set - it includes every gasket you need to do job.
Head bolts and head gaskets. Let's see, you will need a lower and upper intake set as well. These head gaskets usually blew because bad fan relays caused the gaskets to blow and warped the heads. This problem of head gasket blowing is very much noticed on many other Ford Taurus model, because Ford used cheap oil pressure switches that leaked as well.
So get this possibilities checked. This will help.Thanks.

Is it Easy to replace head gasket on 2004 Toyota Camry?

Not at all.Its a difficult task. And also very time consuming.
Replacing a head gasket is a major repair and really should not be attempted if you dont have adequate knowledge and experince withthe process. That said, the head gasket is sandwiched between the cylinder head and the engine block. It requires removing everything from the top of the motor, then removing the cylinder head itself. The old gasket must be completely scraped off the head and the top of the block and any adhesive removed as well. The new gasket is placed on the top of the block in it correct place. Each side of the gasket must be covered with a thin coat of gasket compound. The place the head on top of the gasket, sandwiching it in between and replace the head bolts and torque them down to the required torque. Replace everything removed from top of motor in reverse order. Keep in mind that in replacing a head gasket, it is entirely possible that your problem may be the head itself instead of the gasket. While the head is off, take it to a machine shop and have them inspect it and if its needs it, have them repair it. Again this is not a do it yourself job.-----------
This details will help.
Thanks.
