Whichever method you choose when flashing ,the BIOS not only the password, but also all the other configuration data will be reset to the factory defaults. So when you are booting for the first time after you have flashed the BIOS, you should enter the CMOS configuration menu and fix up some things. When you boot Windows, it may happen that it finds some new device, because of the new configuration of the BIOS, in this case you'll probably need the Windows installation CD because Windows may ask you for some external files.
WARNING!!! Make sure your computer is unplugged before removing the case. Ground yourself before handling any components inside a PC to reduce the risk of electrostatic discharge.
If you don't know how to configure your BIOS, don't mess with it. You can damage your PC!! Rather get a qualified technition to hep you.
There are a few ways to reset the BIOS password as listed below.
•Using a manufacturers backdoor password to access the BIOS.
•Use password cracking software.
•Reset the CMOS using the jumpers or solder beads.
•Removing the CMOS battery for at least 10 minutes.
•Using a professional service.
Standard BIOS backdoor passwords
The first and easiest way to bypass a BIOS password is to try one of these standard manufacturer's backdoor passwords:
AWARD BIOS
AWARD SW, AWARD_SW, Award SW, AWARD PW, _award, awkward, J64, j256, j262, j332, j322, 01322222, 589589, 589721, 595595, 598598, HLT, SER, SKY_FOX, aLLy, aLLY, Condo, CONCAT, TTPTHA, aPAf, KDD, ZBAAACA, ZAAADA, ZJAAADC, (eight blank spaces), ALFAROME, ALLY, ALLy, aLLY, aLLy, aPAf, award, AWARD?SW, AWKWARD, IOSTAR, CONDO, condo, d8on, djonet, J256, J262, j262, j322, j332, J64, LKWPETER, Lkwpeter, PINT, pint, SER, SKY_FOXSYXZ, SKY_FOX, syxz, SYXZ, TTPTHA, ZAAAADA, djonet, %øåñòü ïpîáåëîâ%, %äåâÿòü ïpîáåëîâ%
AMI BIOS
AMI, A.M.I., AMI SW, AMI_SW, BIOS, PASSWORD, HEWITT RAND, Oder, AAAMMMII, AMI?SW, CONDO, LKWPETER, MI, PASSWORD.
Other passwords you may try (for AMI/AWARD or other BIOSes)
LKWPETER, lkwpeter, BIOSTAR, biostar, BIOSSTAR, biosstar, ALFAROME, Syxz, Wodj
Note: Remember that passwords are Case Sensitive. The last two passwords in the AWARD BIOS list are in Russian.
Phoenix Backdoor BIOS Passwords
BIOS, CMOS, phoenix, PHOENIX
Other Manufcaturers Backdoor Passwords: (manufacturer name - password)
VOBIS and IBM - merlin
Dell - Dell
Biostar - Biostar
Compaq - Compaq
Enox - xo11nE
Epox - central
Freetech - Posterie
IWill - iwill
Jetway - spooml
Packard Bell - bell9
QDI - QDI
Siemens - SKY_FOX
SOYO - SY_MB
TMC - BIGO
Toshiba - Toshiba
Flashing BIOS via cracking software
If you have access to the computer when it's turned on, you could try one of those programs that remove the password from the BIOS, by invalidating its memory.
!BIOS software
!BIOS has the ability to "brute force" the password (known as "blasters"). However, this method isdangerous and can result in some unexpected and unwanted results. I highly recomment trying out all other methods before tying this one.
Download !BIOS software and save it to your desktop. Then open a DOS command windows by going to Start > Run and type: cmd
Once you see a black screen in front of you, you will need to type: cd desktop
You should now see something like: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Desktop>
Now type the name of the file you just downloaded, if you haven't changed the name just type in: bios320.exe
Use the down arrow and choose "Crackers" and then press the right arrow. Using the up and down arrows, select the BIOS that the motherboard is using and press Enter.
You should now see a menu asking what you want to crack, in most cases its the Supervisor or System Passwords you want to crack, so press the 1 key on your keyboard. It will then show you another menu asking how you want it to be cracked. Option 1 is pretty good so try that first by pressing the 1 key on your keyboard. You should now have your BIOS password.
Reboot the computer, enter the BIOS and try it out.
However, it might happen you don't have one of those programs when you have access to the computer. You can reset the BIOS to its default values using the MS-DOS tool DEBUG (type DEBUG at the command prompt. Do it in pure MS-DOS mode, not from a MS-DOS shell window in Windows). Once you are in the debug environment enter the following commands:
AMI/AWARD BIOS
O 70 17
O 71 17
Q
PHOENIX BIOS
O 70 FF
O 71 17
Q
GENERIC
Invalidates CMOS RAM.
Should work on all AT motherboards
(XT motherboards don't have CMOS)
O 70 2E
O 71 FF
Q
Note: The first letter is a "O" not the number "0". The numbers which follow are two bytes in hex format.
Resetting BIOS via hardware (CMOS jumpers and CMOS battery)
If you can't get into Windows and the standard backdoor passwords didn't work then you will need to flash the BIOS via the motherboard's hardware.
NOTE: Please read the important note at the begining of this section before to try any of these methods.
Using the jumpers to reset the BIOS password and settings
The best way to flash the BIOS via hardware is to plug, unplug, or switch a jumper on the motherboard, (if the jumper is normally on position 1-2, you have to put it on position 2-3, or viceversa). The 3-pin jumper should near the power supply on the motherboard, typically labeled "clear cmos" or "reset bios". To find the correct jumper you should read the motherboard's manual.
Once you've located the correct jumper, switch it (or plug or unplug it, depending from what the manual says) while the computer is turned OFF. Wait a couple of seconds then put the jumper back to its original position.
If after flashing the BIOS, the computer won't boot when you turn it on, turn it off, and wait some seconds before to retry.
Removing the battery
If you can't find the jumper or if it doesn't exist, you can remove the battery that keeps the BIOS memory powered. It's a button-size battery somewhere on the motherboard.
In some smaller motherboard the CMOS battery is in the upright position.
The laptop CMOS battery is shown below.
Disconnect it for 15-30 minutes or more, then reinsert it and the data in the BIOS memory should be reset. If at first it doesn't work, try to remove the battery overnight. Once the battery has been reinserted power up the PC and see if the reset was successful.
