REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
3.0L OHV Engine
See Figures 1 through 9
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Raise the vehicle and support it with jackstands.
- Remove the right hand wheel assembly.
- Unfasten the four crankshaft pulley-to-damper retaining bolts and remove the pulley.
- Remove the crankshaft damper retaining bolt and washer.
Use caution when removing the damper so as not to damage the damper or create burrs.
- Using crankshaft damper removal tool T58P-6316-D and vibration damper T82L-6316-B or their equivalents, remove the damper from the crankshaft.
To install:
- Inspect the crankshaft damper and the seal for signs of damage and repair as necessary.
- Coat the crankshaft damper sealing surface with clean engine oil.
- Apply a suitable sealant to the crankshaft damper key-way.
- Using damper and seal replace r tool T82L-6316-A or its equivalent, Install the damper onto the crankshaft.
- Install the damper retaining bolt and washer. Tighten the bolt to 93-121 ft. lbs. (125-165 Nm).
- Place the crankshaft pulley in position and install the four bolts. Tighten the bolts to 30-40 ft. lbs. (40-55 Nm)
- Install the right hand wheel assembly and lower the vehicle.
- Install the accessory drive belt.
- Connect the negative batter cable.
- Start the vehicle and check for leaks.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Raise the vehicle and support it with jackstands.
- Remove the right hand wheel assembly.
- Remove the right hand splash shield from the front fender apron to access the crankshaft pulley.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Install a flywheel holding tool T96P-6375-A or its equivalent to the transaxle case and engage the flywheel.
The crankshaft drive pulley uses left hand threading. Rotate the pulley clockwise to remove.
- Remove the crankshaft pulley bracket retaining nuts from the engine front cover.
- Remove the crankshaft pulley and bracket.
- Remove the flywheel holding tool.
The crankshaft damper bolt is a right hand thread.
- Remove the damper retaining bolt and washer.
- Using front damper removal tool T58P-6316-D or its equivalent, remove the damper from the crankshaft.
- Prior to applying sealer, clean the sealing surfaces using a clean shop towel and metal surface cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or its equivalent to remove all residues that would interfere with the sealers ability to adhere.
- Inspect the crankshaft damper and the seal for signs of damage and repair as necessary.
- Apply a suitable silicone sealant to the front of the crankshaft on the inside diameter surface of the pulley at the key-way.
- Using damper and seal replacer tool T74P-6316-B or its equivalent, Install the damper onto the crankshaft.
- Install the damper retaining bolt and washer. Tighten the bolt as follows:Tighten the bolt to 88 ft. lbs. (120 Nm)Loosen the bolt a minimum of one full turn.Tighten the bolt to 35-39 ft. lbs. (47-53 Nm)Rotate the bolt an additional 85-90 degrees
- Install the flywheel holding tool T96P-6375-A or its equivalent to the transaxle case and engage the flywheel.
- Place the crankshaft pulley in position and install the four bolts. Tighten the crankshaft pulley into the damper counterclockwise to 70-77 ft. lbs. (95-105 Nm). Tighten the bracket retaining nuts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
- Remove the flywheel holding tool.
- Install the accessory drive belt.
- Install the right hand splash shield.
- Install the right hand wheel assembly and lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative batter cable.
- Start the vehicle and check for leaks.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Raise the vehicle and support it with jackstands.
- Remove the right hand wheel assembly.
- Remove the right hand splash shield from the front fender apron to access the crankshaft pulley.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Remove the damper retaining bolt and washer.
- Using steering wheel puller tool T67L-3600-A or its equivalent, remove the damper from the crankshaft.
- Prior to applying sealer, clean the sealing surfaces using a clean shop towel and metal surface cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or its equivalent to remove all residues that would interfere with the sealers ability to adhere.
- Inspect the crankshaft damper and the seal for signs of damage and repair as necessary.
- Apply a suitable silicone sealant to the front of the crankshaft on the inside diameter surface of the pulley at the key-way.
- Using damper and seal replacer tool T82L-6316-A or its equivalent, Install the damper onto the crankshaft.
- Install the damper retaining bolt and washer. Tighten the bolt as follows:Tighten the bolt to 78-99 ft. lbs. (105-135 Nm)Loosen the bolt a minimum of one full turn.Tighten the bolt to 35-39 ft. lbs. (47-53 Nm)Rotate the bolt an additional 85-90 degrees
- Install the accessory drive belt.
- Install the right hand splash shield.
- Install the right hand wheel assembly and lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative batter cable.
- Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
