How to Replace a Radiator

With the engine off and cold, open the hood and locate the vehicle's radiator.

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.

Remove the radiator cap.

Place a drain pan under the radiator. Remove the drain plug or remove the lower radiator hose to drain the cooling system.

Remove the upper radiator hose.

Remove the radiator fan shroud or remove the electric cooling fan assembly.

Remove the radiator.

Install the new or repaired radiator. Make sure it is aligned.

Install the lower radiator hose and clamp.

Install the radiator fan shroud or electric cooling fan assembly.

Install the upper radiator hose and clamp.

Fill the radiator and radiator reservoir with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water.

Install the radiator pressure tester and check for additional leaks.

Reinstall the radiator cap and negative battery cable. Start the engine.

Monitor the engine temperature.

Road test the vehicle, maintaining supervision over the temperature gauge.

Verify repair by inspecting for leaks or overheating.
