How to Replace a Muffler?

Locate the muffler under the vehicle towards the rear.

Secure your vehicle on a level surface, making sure your vehicle will not roll or lean when jacked up.

Using a floor jack, lift up the rear of your vehicle.

Secure the vehicle with jack stands on both sides for safety before starting any work. The pinch welds or the frame rails are the two best locations. Do not rely on the jack alone to hold the vehicle up while working.

Spray the exhaust clamp bolts with a penetrating lubricant. Remove the exhaust clamps from the muffler. Disconnect any muffler hangers.

Remove the old muffler.

Install the new muffler and follow reverse procedure to complete.

Road test the vehicle to confirm the repair.
