The Whirlpool duet washer needs a reset to resolve the control lock problem. Press and hold the END OF CYCLE/CYCLE SIGNAL button for 15 seconds to reset the control. This button is usually located on the right side of the panel facing the front of the washer.
Similarly, if it is a Kenmore Washer you can press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 15 seconds.
In a Kenmore Dryer you can use the AUTO DRY LEVEL button (press and hold it for 15 seconds to unlock the control).
