How to Read Codes From Check Engine Light?

In this example 2008 Dodge truck is shown.
The check engine light came on 2008 dodge ram truck.
So this is the procedure shown below to help you and show,how to retrieve car diagnostic error codes.

If the engine light is on there should be a code. Try to follow the example below and see if you get any code numbers.

 

You can get the codes from your vehicle with out a scan tool! Simple turn the key on and off three times and do not crank the engine. The last time the key is turned on leave it in the on position and watch the odometer. This procedure will need to be done in a matter of seconds for it to work. The key cycles will look like this: ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON and the codes will look like this:





In this example using a 2008 Dodge truck the codes retrieved are P0171 and P0174 after the last code is displayed you get the message done:

O2 sensor gets faulty,there are many indications.But first the fault code has to be tested.Is there check engine light on dash.Did you got bad O2 sensor error code in car scan.
An O2 sensor that is not functioning correctly or is reading a lean or rich fuel mixture turn on the check engine light in the dash, this is an Orange indicator. There are other reasons like the heater circuit in the O2 is defective, that is a different code. On this car you can read the signal out of the O2's using a special tool called a scanner, it plugs into the diagnostic port under the dash in front of the driver.So first get this confirmed,before directly confirming,that O2 sensor is bad.
