Power Antenna Motor will Not Stop?

Installing Antenna Mast Assembly.

Many a times this happens. The Antenna mast assembly is installed correctly but motor still not performing as it should. When motor is tested the motor voltage is checked ok.
The car owner gets confused at this time.
Because Antenna mast assembly is new and installed correctly and in the same way motor is running and testing fine.

So in this types of cases read further details ..........

While performing this procedure.

Get the antenna mast assembly locked down with the retainer nut .
Once the antenna reaches the top most travel the relay is designed to shut motor off.
If  the antenna mast is installed correctly and it hits the top and the motor continues to run and the mast stops then something is wrong with the antenna drive motor relay assembly. If you did not install the retainer nut the antenna mast will just get pushed right back out.

BUT,  If the motor continues to grind away on the cable this means the nylon drive gear that pushes the cable off is worn out/old and is not strong enough to shut the relay off once the travel is completed.

So in such cases the relay and Gear both needs to be inspected.Which ever is faulty has to be replaced.

Hope this details Help you.

Thanks.

Triumph TR6: Testing spark and Timing?

How to test spark at the plugs and spark timing. The details for old model 1974 Triumph TR6 2.5L Engine model.

To check for spark, pull the spark plug wire off at the spark plug and have someone else crank the engine. If you hold the end of the wire about 1/2" away from the plug and the spark jumps the gap then the spark is plenty strong. To check spark timing, you can use a timing light attached to the #1 plug wire. See if the timing light strobe fires at the correct timing mark on the crankshaft. If you do not have a timing light then remove the #1 spark plug, place your thumb over the plug hole and crank the engine over by hand. When a pulse of air pushes out of the spark plug hole, turn the engine until the timing marks are lined up. Then remove the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is pointing towards #1 spark plug wire on the cap.

Also make sure you have fresh gasoline in the engine. If the gas is old, drain the tank and fill with fresh gas before proceeding.

Read more details to understand the timing set issue.

Turn the engine until the timing marks are lined up.

Place a wrench on the crank bolt located on the end of the crankshaft pulley, just in front of the cooling fan. Turn the pulley clockwise (when looking at the fan from the front of the engine) so that the small indicator hole drilled in the back of the pulley is exactly 3/8-inch to the left of the timing pointer. The timing pointer is fastened to the timing chain cover and points down over the crankshaft pulley.

Please NOTE: Do not turn the pulley counter clockwise as this may damage the timing chain and may result in an incorrect reading. Move the fan and pulley in a smooth, continuous motion.

This details will help.
Thanks.

1998 Pontiac Firebird: Both Front Turn signals not working?

Front turn signals not functioning.

Normally the problem is in the front lights. This can either be in the wiring connector that goes to the headlight motor and front park lights, or it can be in the front park/turn light socket. Most of the time it is the socket that is faulty. These sockets are available through the dealers parts department and most auto parts stores.

But before that,try this possibility

See whether the dash indicator flash when turn signal lever is turned on and off, or does it stay lit up solid?
If it stays solid and does not flash then here is the problem.

This is due to the circuit back feeding from the front lights, due to bad grounds in the bulb sockets. Remove the front bulbs, then see if you can make the dash indicators flash on and off when the lever is moved. If you can then the problem is in the front bulb sockets.

This details will help.
Thanks.

Ford Maverick: No Idle and Stalling issues?

This is old model 1972 Ford Maverick 4.1L Engine model.

In this vehicle the engine will not idle at all and stalls out when in gear.

On this types of problems the most possible issues are
The idle screw totaly backed out, air/fuel mixture out of adjustment or choke is sticking closed along with numerous vaccum leaks.

The First thing i will say is inspect the carburetor ,if its dirty or clogged due to carbon build up it can cause such problems.

Other thing to try is do some adjustments to the ignition timing or to the idle mixture and see if that is making any difference.

But if adjusting the idle mixture is not helping, then try checking and adjusting the ignition timing. Best way to do this is with a timing light. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor and then adjust timing to 4 degrees before top dead center. Then reconnect vacuum hose. Make sure timing advances when the hose is connected. If there is no change, replace the vacuum advance canister on the distributor as well.

Please note this Further details :----

The fuel pickup is not on the float, the pickup screen is on a tube at the bottom of the tank. The float is just for the fuel level sensor. Ignition timing can make the engine run poorly, so don't overlook this as a potential problem.

Try closing the choke at the top of the carburetor and see if this improves the way the engine runs, then try removing a vacuum hose and introducing a vacuum leak to see if this makes the engine run better. If choking the engine makes it run better then it is not getting enough fuel. If introducing a vacuum leak makes the engine run better then the engine is getting too much fuel.

This details will help.
Thanks.

1998 Chevrolet Corvette: Power Seat Control Now Working?

On this car model there are 3 switches that controls the Power Seat.

The three small switches
One is to adjust the lower back support, next one is for the tightness of the seats (they hug your sides) and the third one tightens the upper back support.

If the Switch controls is not working the wiring's to the switch needs to be checked.

You will see  thin and thick orange colored wires in the switch.Test that wires with meter. You should get approx 12.6 or 12.8 volts. The orange wires should have power.

Now test the power wires, the wires which provide power to the seat function.
There is a red wire with a white stripe and 2 thin black wires with white stripes on them (black wires go to same port in connector) coming from the floor under the carpet to the seat connector. These are what control the seat functions.Test this wire with the meter You should get 12 volts.

Pull the floor carpet back and inspect the seat control wiring's under it.If you notice any short or loose wire.Reconnect or replace that wire and see if that helps.

NOW IF you have power on the thin orange wire, operate the switches and test for power on each of the following wires.

Lower lumbar inflate= Pink
Lower lumber deflate = Yellow

Side bolster inflate = Purple
Side bolster deflate = Gray/Black

Upper lumbar inflate = Yellow
Upper lumbar deflate = Gray

If the wires do not have power coming out then the switch is bad. If you get power out of these wires as indicated then the seat upper motor assembly is bad.

This details will help.
Thanks.

2007 Cadillac DTS: Its Not Faulty AIR Intake Pump?

In this case the Previous mechanic told that Check engine light is ON due to faulty AIR intake Pump in Cadillac dts model. So he reset the code by scan tool. The Engine light turned off but came Again after few days.

On basis of this description, the troubleshooting of this problem is as follows:----

Most of the time the problem is water intrusion into the air pump. This shorts out the air pump motor. Then the fix involves replacing the air pump and making sure all air line connections are sealed to prevent future occurrences.

If it is the pump, the engine light would stay on, as the pump failure would be noted by the computer on every cold startup. A more likely problem is going to be a part that is failing intermittently like a check valve that is sticking or a failing pump relay. These repairs are minor in comparison to pump replacement. This is the only way the light would stay off for a Few days.

While pump failure is common there is no way the light will stay OFF for few days with a bad pump motor.

So its not faulty AIR Pump.

This details will help.
Thanks.

2006 Cadillac DTS: COOLANT LEAK AT DRIVER SIDE NEAR FIREWALL?

In this case the customer noticed the minor coolant leak frizzing noise. It was coming from drivers side and near to firewall.

On this basic description of problem, the troubleshooting details for this issue are as follows:----

You should first check the heater hoses that run to the connections on the firewall. These are the only components on the back side of the engine that can cause a coolant leak. Other than that, the head gasket would be the likely cause. There are no recalls for this issue. It is an expensive fix, as the engine has to come out of the car for this repair. Most shops charge over $2000, but there are some shops that specialize in this repair that do it for around $1600. The head should of course be checked for warpage while it is off to replace the gasket. Good shops will also install threaded inserts into the head bolt holes in the block to prevent future problems.

ONE MORE THING,
There is no coolant passage or hose on the opposite corner of the engine ,so there is no water flowing through the intake manifold, BUT there is water (coolant) that flows through the crossover assembly. On that side of the engine. This part houses the water pump, supplies coolant flow to the throttle body and across to the back side cylinder head. Sounds like the gasket where the crossover meets the cylinder head may be bad, but check hose connection at rear first.

See the help diagram shown below:----

graphic
In most of such cases the leak is from head gasket location.
Because the waterpump points to the east at the right fender. The leak is on the opposite side, southwest side of the engine.so a head gasket leak is far more likely in this location.

CAR PAINTED WRONG COLOR?

In this case the customer painted the door of his car but the color got bit different from original. Now he needs to change the shade a bit.

On basis of this description the possibilities are as follows:----

Auto painters use custom "candy" paints to change the shade of the paint color. It is basically a tinted clear coat. It is available in all different colors, reds, blues, yellows, oranges, so there is likely a candy color that would work for you. Ask your local auto paint store about the various color options. This would prevent you from having to totally repaint the car, you could just coat over the existing paint.

This will help.

2000 Cadillac Deville: A/C compressor clutch won't engage

In this case the A/C refrigerant is empty and System is not taking any Freon. The Vehicle is Cadillac 2001 Deville model.

OK.On basic of this description the troubleshooting details for this problem are as follows:----

The system will set a trouble code when the refrigerant is empty. The code will need to be cleared to get the compressor to engage again.

You can access codes to read and clear them through the dash controls. Push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons simultaneously on the a/c control panel. The warmer button located on the a/c panel,May just be a red button. It is the one you push to raise the a/c temperature.

BUT on some Cadillac 2001 models there is no RED button on A/C Panel.
On that car models
Use the 3 switches located to the right of the Driver Information Center (DIC) to activate and respond to the OBD prompts on the DIC.

ON/OFF = YES
INFO RESET = NO
INFO DOWN or INFO UP = manual toggle

Ignition ON, acknowledge any warning messages; press ON/OFF and INFO UP together for 2 to 3 seconds. Everything in front of you lights up for 4 or 5 seconds, then you will see:
Display shows "ALL?"
Answering YES will display "ALL CODES?"
Answering YES will run automatic test sequence and display codes.

Now clear the codes.

You are going to have to get some refrigerant into the system in order for the pressure sensor to read pressure, then clear the code again and the clutch should engage. If you cannot get any refrigerant into the system, try a different charging adapter.

But if the if its not taking ANY refrigerant or not clearing the codes by this procedure then, you will have to get the vehicle to local auto parts store and clear the codes with a scan tool, and it may activate the clutch on the compressor, and then you can recharge the AC system with refrigerant.

This details will help.
Thanks.

2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo: Water on passenger side floorboard?

In this case water gets collected on passenger side Front floorboard.
This problem of water getting collected is always noticed after heavy rains.

On this basic of description, the details to troubleshoot this issue is as follows:---

First of all i will say, then many car models and brands notice this same problem. Its a common problem. This water actually gets collected due to dirt blockage.
Or a loose drain line.

This is due to rain water entering the vehicle at the fresh air inlet just below the windshield. There is a rubber strip that should redirect water away from the air inlet, but it will sometimes become detached, allowing water to enter the vehicle. To fix this, turn the wiper on and then turn the key off with the wiper in the up position. Open the hood, then remove the plastic panel at the base of the windshield on the passenger side. You will then see the rubber strip at the base of the metal edge below the windshield. Clean the rubber strip and reattach with weatherstrip adhesive or RTV silicone. This should fix your problem.

1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera: The Engine cranks but not start?

In this case the engine cranks fine but will not start.ts 3.1L engine model Oldsmobile ciera.

To troubleshoot this problem,
Try this procedure :----
Remove one of the plug wires at the coil and crank the engine to see if you have spark.
If you get no spark then spark plug is the issue. But if you get spark but fuel not getting to it,then here is the problem.

On this Engine model the injectors are covered , so there is not an easy way to test for injector pulse. The problem is most likely a failed fuel pump. There is a test port on the end of the fuel rail, near the power steering pump. Fuel pressure can be tested at this port with a gauge. You should have 40-47 psi with the key on, engine off. If fuel pressure is lower than specified, replace the fuel pump.

Getting this possibilities checked / inspected will help.
Thanks.

Multiple problems on car: Car runs hot,A/C blows hot and car starts surging?

Its a multiple problem issue.

The Symptoms noticed are .......

  • First car runs hot.
  • Then A/C starts blowing hot
  • And then car starts surging.

As per this description mentioned, the troubleshooting for the problem is as follows :----

From the symptoms described, it sounds like the radiator cooling fan is not working. This will make the engine get hot, it will also not allow the air conditioner to cool properly. The compressor would also cycle on and off due to the high pressure in the system, this is the surging when the compressor turns on and off.

If the engine stays cool and the a/c cools okay when travelling down the road, this is because there is airflow through the condenser and radiator. When stopped, the fan must come on to provide this airflow.

In this case either its a bad radiator fan motor or relay, most likely it is the fan motor that is bad.

Getting this possibilities checked/ inspected will help.
Thanks.

2005 Pontiac G6 GT: Metallic clanking noise on idle?

The problem is noticed on Pontiac G6 vehicle.

There is loud metallic / clanking type noise is heard from the bottom side or back of engine. The noise is basically heard at idle.

The sound gets worse at around 1700-2000 Rpms.

The sound/noise is same whether the transmission is in gear or not in gear.

On this base of description the troubleshooting details for this problem is as follows :---

The problem sounds like it is a failing lifter or perhaps a rocker arm that is coming loose. I would suggest removing the valve covers so that the rocker arms can be inspected and retightened. Since the sound does not change in gear then it is not going to be a cracked flexplate (flywheel) and also will not likely be in the transmission.

Getting this possibilities mentioned here inspected will help.

Thanks.

2005 GMC ENVOY: Turn Signals Don't Work When Brakes Are Applied?

In this case the turn-signals stop working when brakes are applied. But otherwise the turn signal works.

On basis of this description the details and possibilities to troubleshoot the problem are as follows :-----

As its mentioned that turn signals are working, but stops only when brakes are applied.

This clears that turn multi-function signal switch is working. But still check / inspect the switch voltage and wiring.

Also recheck the brake light switch and its connections properly.

But if all this checked out perfectly ok.

Then read further
The problem you are experiencing is a bad ground to the taillights. Inspect the connectors at each taillight and make sure the connector and terminals are not damaged. If you have an ohmmeter, test for continuity to ground on the black wire. If you have no ohmmeter, connect a jumper wire to a good ground and then to the black wire at the taillight connector and see if this fixes the problem. If it does not then the problem is in the taillight socket plate. This is a common failure on the Envoy and is most likely in the taillight socket plates.

This details will help.
Thanks.

2006 Cadillac cts-v Clutch Getting stuck?

In this case the Garage Shop replaced clutch assembly on Cadillac car but its going in gear and not releasing out.Its stuck.
On base of this description, the troubleshooting is as follows:---

First thing i will say,On 2006 caddy cts model the clutch is hydraulically actuated, so there is no adjustment. It is possible there is air trapped in the hydraulic system. That has to be bleed out. The best way to bleed the air out of the system is to use a hand held vacuum pump to apply vaccuum to the top of the clutch fluid reservoir.

There is no adjustment at the pedal or linkage since this system is hydraulic. If the clutch does not disengage properly and all of the air is bled out of the system then the clutch has to be binding mechanically due to improper installation.

Also the other possibility can be issue with slave cylinder.
The slave cylinder can be binding internally and causing the problem. I would suggest double checking the installation of all parts, if it all looks okay then replace the slave cylinder with a GM part.

This details will help.
Thanks.
