1996 Dodge Grand Caravan: Parking Brake Cable Broken?

How to replace Parking brake cable.

When the cable is broken,it has to be replaced.

First you will have to confirm which parking brake cable is broken and then it has to be replaced.

which parking brake cable - right rear, left rear, intermediate(connects rear cables to front cable), or the front parking brake cable?

I will provide details for all of that.

The details with diagrams are as follows:-----

Here are directions to replace the broken cable:
FRONT PARK BRAKE CABLE

REMOVE
Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a hoist.
Manually lockout the automatic self adjusting mechanism of the park brake pedal assembly.
Remove the intermediate and left rear park brake cable from the park brake cable equalizer .

brake cable assembly

Remove the front park cable housing retainer from body outrigger bracket .. Cable is removable by sliding a 14 mm box wrench over cable retainer and compressing the three retaining fingers. Alternate method is to use an aircraft type hose clamp and screwdriver.

See the help diagram shown below:------

2002 KIA Sedona: Car will not Start with OBD code P0340?

Yes OBD code P0340 can cause the no start condition for car.

Error code P0340 means problem with Camshaft position sensor A circuit bank 1.

While a bad cam sensor can be the cause of a no-start condition,
And the other possibility can be jumped timing belt which would also set the code for P0340.

The cam sensor is behind the upper timing cover:

See the diagram showing its location :----
cam sensor

You remove the upper timing belt cover to replace the cmp sensor. Takes about 30 minutes.

I would suggest removing the timing covers and verifying that the timing is correct and if it is, then replace the sensor. If not, then it needs timing belt job

See the timing marks diagram shown below:
timing marks alignment

To verify what is the correct timing, follow the procedure below:----
you have to remove the #1 spark plug, have someone turn the engine over by using a socket on the crankshaft pulley and turning clockwise while you have your finger over the #1 spark plug hole. When you feel air pushing your finger off the hole. It is at TDC(top dead center). Now look at the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets and on the crankshaft sprocket. They should line up as shown in the diagram I already provided.

The #1 spark plug is the one towards the firewall that is closest to the engine pulleys.

Cam sensor is only $45-55, depending upon store you go to. I would go ahead and replace it to start with, and if still no-start, then you thru the process to check the timing belt.

To replace camshaft position sensor its easy, you can do it.
you can do this yourself.
You will remove the 10mm bolts that hold the upper timing cover(there are 2 upper timing covers- remove the one closest to the front of the vehicle. when facing the belts it will be to your right). Once removed, remove the retaining bolts for the cam sensor, unplug it and remove. Install in reverse.

This details will help.

2000 Nissan Maxima: Will not Shift out of Park?

The Shifter will not shift out of park mode.
In some cases you will notice that pressing the brake pedal few times help to get it out of park mode.
But the problem starts again, once the vehicle gets into park mode.

There are two things that can cause such problem.

Either faulty brake light switch or the issue with shift interlock solenoid.

You have a faulty brake light switch. This switch also is used in the shift interlock system and when it starts failing, you will have problems getting it out of park. Pumping the brakes further verifies that this is the problem.

You will need to replace or have replaced the brake light switch. It is located at the top of the brake pedal at brake pedal bracket.

It costs around $25 for the switch and about $30 labor to install it.

To confirm the problem is brake light switch.Turn the ignition switch to ON and press the brake pedal. And see if brake lights are coming up or not.If no brake lights are illuminating, then problem is brake light switch.

But if brake light switch is checked ok and brake lights working fine then check the other possibility.

The center console will need to be removed and then the shift interlock solenoid tested for 12v when this occurs. If power present, then shift interlock solenoid is replaced. If no power, then the wiring harness between the brake switch and shift interlock solenoid will have to be physically traced and short in harness repaired.

For more help.see the diagram to go through:-----

shift solenoid and park position switch

Thanks.

1999 Lexus RX300: Engine idles low and stalls in morning?

The Engine idles very low while start up in the morning. Also a stalling is noticed.
But once the engine warms up is starts and runs fine.

In this types of problem there are several possible causes for low idle/stalling when engine is cold - low fuel pressure, vacuum leak, faulty coolant temperature sensor, faulty Throttle Position sensor, faulty mass air flow sensor, sticking throttle body throat plate.

To find out which of the above is the cause, you will need to leave the vehicle overnight with a shop so that they can test it with a diagnostic scanner when cranking the next morning and engine is cold. They wont be able to test it after having driven straight to them as the engine will be warmed up and nothing will show as wrong.

If you are going to do the testing, you will need to do it first thing before its being driven and will need a fuel pressure gage, a voltmeter and scan tool to test the above mentioned possible causes.

These details will help.
Thanks.

2006 Ford Focus: Steering Wheel shakes and vibrates?

While driving the vehicle at highway speed the Shaking and vibration is noticed on steering wheel for few seconds.

This is not constant vibration. It just shakes for few seconds then again stops and then again vibrates and this cycle continues.

In this types of cases first see do you notice any type of check engine light or any other warning lif\ght coming up on dash.If YES,then get the vehicle computer scanned to retrieve error codes stored in computer. That error code will point towards faulty part and you can continue your troubleshooting.

But if there is no warning light at all then its not error code related.

Then other thing to be inspected is noise. When the vehicle shakes and vibrates do you hear any king of clicking or rumbling or ticking noise from any where or its not making any noise. If its making any noise then reach that area from where noise is getting heard and from there you can start making your further troubleshooting.

But if no noise is heard and just the shake/vibrate issue then ,

usually a shaking/vibration felt in the steering wheel is tire/wheel related, but may be in the drivetrain, so we need to isolate the area of concern which is quite easy to do.

Take for a test drive and get up to highway speed where the shaking occurs. As soon as it starts shaking put the transmission in neutral. If the shaking immediately goes away, then it is drivetrain related. If shaking is still there, then it is in the tire/wheels area.

If tires/wheels, first the tires need to be carefully inspected for signs of belt separation - knots or goose eggs on tires, lumps on sidewall of tire, irregular tread wear, and also check for dents in rims. If all are ok, then the wheel hub bearings will need to checked for play and replaced as needed.

If shaking immediately stopped when put in neutral, then cv shafts need to checked for excess play, and right side cv axle needs to be checked for center bearing being bad. If cv shafts are good, then the transaxle itself will need to be inspected.

This details will help.
Thanks.

2006 Honda Pilot: Air comes out of intake throttle valve?

The problem in most cases is Flow of air gets thrown out every-time the engine is shut off.And this also makes noise and can be heard on driver side.

The Air is getting out of intake throttle valve.

This issue is related to faulty IAC also called as idle air control valve.Either is dirty or faulty.First remove the valve clean it and reinsert and check the problem. If its still there, then replace the IAC valve.

This is a faulty IACV(idle air control valve), and is a fairly common failure of this type.

See the Idle Valve location shown in the diagram:-------
idle air control valve

You can try removing it and cleaning it and see if it still makes the noise. If it does, then replace at that point.

There are 2 different 3.5L engines for the 2006 Pilot.

This one has an electronic throttle body in which the TP sensor and IAC valve are integrated into the throttle body.

Remove the throttle body and clean and reinstall. If noise continues, you have to replace the whole electronic throttle body assembly.

This details will help.
Thanks.
