Power Antenna Motor will Not Stop?

Installing Antenna Mast Assembly.

Many a times this happens. The Antenna mast assembly is installed correctly but motor still not performing as it should. When motor is tested the motor voltage is checked ok.
The car owner gets confused at this time.
Because Antenna mast assembly is new and installed correctly and in the same way motor is running and testing fine.

So in this types of cases read further details ..........

While performing this procedure.

Get the antenna mast assembly locked down with the retainer nut .
Once the antenna reaches the top most travel the relay is designed to shut motor off.
If  the antenna mast is installed correctly and it hits the top and the motor continues to run and the mast stops then something is wrong with the antenna drive motor relay assembly. If you did not install the retainer nut the antenna mast will just get pushed right back out.

BUT,  If the motor continues to grind away on the cable this means the nylon drive gear that pushes the cable off is worn out/old and is not strong enough to shut the relay off once the travel is completed.

So in such cases the relay and Gear both needs to be inspected.Which ever is faulty has to be replaced.

Hope this details Help you.

Thanks.

Triumph TR6: Testing spark and Timing?

How to test spark at the plugs and spark timing. The details for old model 1974 Triumph TR6 2.5L Engine model.

To check for spark, pull the spark plug wire off at the spark plug and have someone else crank the engine. If you hold the end of the wire about 1/2" away from the plug and the spark jumps the gap then the spark is plenty strong. To check spark timing, you can use a timing light attached to the #1 plug wire. See if the timing light strobe fires at the correct timing mark on the crankshaft. If you do not have a timing light then remove the #1 spark plug, place your thumb over the plug hole and crank the engine over by hand. When a pulse of air pushes out of the spark plug hole, turn the engine until the timing marks are lined up. Then remove the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is pointing towards #1 spark plug wire on the cap.

Also make sure you have fresh gasoline in the engine. If the gas is old, drain the tank and fill with fresh gas before proceeding.

Read more details to understand the timing set issue.

Turn the engine until the timing marks are lined up.

Place a wrench on the crank bolt located on the end of the crankshaft pulley, just in front of the cooling fan. Turn the pulley clockwise (when looking at the fan from the front of the engine) so that the small indicator hole drilled in the back of the pulley is exactly 3/8-inch to the left of the timing pointer. The timing pointer is fastened to the timing chain cover and points down over the crankshaft pulley.

Please NOTE: Do not turn the pulley counter clockwise as this may damage the timing chain and may result in an incorrect reading. Move the fan and pulley in a smooth, continuous motion.

1998 Pontiac Firebird: Both Front Turn signals not working?

Front turn signals not functioning.

Normally the problem is in the front lights. This can either be in the wiring connector that goes to the headlight motor and front park lights, or it can be in the front park/turn light socket. Most of the time it is the socket that is faulty. These sockets are available through the dealers parts department and most auto parts stores.

But before that,try this possibility

See whether the dash indicator flash when turn signal lever is turned on and off, or does it stay lit up solid?
If it stays solid and does not flash then here is the problem.

This is due to the circuit back feeding from the front lights, due to bad grounds in the bulb sockets. Remove the front bulbs, then see if you can make the dash indicators flash on and off when the lever is moved. If you can then the problem is in the front bulb sockets.

This details will help.
Thanks.

Ford Maverick: No Idle and Stalling issues?

This is old model 1972 Ford Maverick 4.1L Engine model.

In this vehicle the engine will not idle at all and stalls out when in gear.

On this types of problems the most possible issues are
The idle screw totaly backed out, air/fuel mixture out of adjustment or choke is sticking closed along with numerous vaccum leaks.

The First thing i will say is inspect the carburetor ,if its dirty or clogged due to carbon build up it can cause such problems.

Other thing to try is do some adjustments to the ignition timing or to the idle mixture and see if that is making any difference.

But if adjusting the idle mixture is not helping, then try checking and adjusting the ignition timing. Best way to do this is with a timing light. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor and then adjust timing to 4 degrees before top dead center. Then reconnect vacuum hose. Make sure timing advances when the hose is connected. If there is no change, replace the vacuum advance canister on the distributor as well.

Please note this Further details :----

The fuel pickup is not on the float, the pickup screen is on a tube at the bottom of the tank. The float is just for the fuel level sensor. Ignition timing can make the engine run poorly, so don't overlook this as a potential problem.

Try closing the choke at the top of the carburetor and see if this improves the way the engine runs, then try removing a vacuum hose and introducing a vacuum leak to see if this makes the engine run better. If choking the engine makes it run better then it is not getting enough fuel. If introducing a vacuum leak makes the engine run better then the engine is getting too much fuel.

This details will help.
Thanks.

1998 Chevrolet Corvette: Power Seat Control Now Working?

On this car model there are 3 switches that controls the Power Seat.

The three small switches
One is to adjust the lower back support, next one is for the tightness of the seats (they hug your sides) and the third one tightens the upper back support.

If the Switch controls is not working the wiring's to the switch needs to be checked.

You will see  thin and thick orange colored wires in the switch.Test that wires with meter. You should get approx 12.6 or 12.8 volts. The orange wires should have power.

Now test the power wires, the wires which provide power to the seat function.
There is a red wire with a white stripe and 2 thin black wires with white stripes on them (black wires go to same port in connector) coming from the floor under the carpet to the seat connector. These are what control the seat functions.Test this wire with the meter You should get 12 volts.

Pull the floor carpet back and inspect the seat control wiring's under it.If you notice any short or loose wire.Reconnect or replace that wire and see if that helps.

NOW IF you have power on the thin orange wire, operate the switches and test for power on each of the following wires.

Lower lumbar inflate= Pink
Lower lumber deflate = Yellow

Side bolster inflate = Purple
Side bolster deflate = Gray/Black

Upper lumbar inflate = Yellow
Upper lumbar deflate = Gray

If the wires do not have power coming out then the switch is bad. If you get power out of these wires as indicated then the seat upper motor assembly is bad.

This details will help.
Thanks.

The Exact Knock Sensor Location diagram on Chevy Silverado 5.1L Engine vehicle.

Make sure to check for the presence of water in the well for the rear sensor and contamination of the connector, as this is a common problem.

There are two knock sensors on this engine, both under the intake manifold. The intake manifold must be removed to replace these sensors.

The labor time to replace the knock sensor is 2.7 hours.

See the Knock Sensors diagram shown below :---

2007 Cadillac DTS: Its Not Faulty AIR Intake Pump?

In this case the Previous mechanic told that Check engine light is ON due to faulty AIR intake Pump in Cadillac dts model. So he reset the code by scan tool. The Engine light turned off but came Again after few days.

On basis of this description, the troubleshooting of this problem is as follows:----

Most of the time the problem is water intrusion into the air pump. This shorts out the air pump motor. Then the fix involves replacing the air pump and making sure all air line connections are sealed to prevent future occurrences.

If it is the pump, the engine light would stay on, as the pump failure would be noted by the computer on every cold startup. A more likely problem is going to be a part that is failing intermittently like a check valve that is sticking or a failing pump relay. These repairs are minor in comparison to pump replacement. This is the only way the light would stay off for a Few days.

While pump failure is common there is no way the light will stay OFF for few days with a bad pump motor.

So its not faulty AIR Pump.

This details will help.
Thanks.
