How to Install a Carpet on car?

Inspect your carpet for damage.

Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 10-15 minutes before working on the vehicle.

Remove the floor mats.

Remove the seats from the vehicle by unbolting the four bolts located at each corner underneath the seats. Some vehicles will use studs that go through the floor and are tightened by a nut located underneath the vehicle. Remove the nuts from underneath the vehicle and the seats will come out.

Remove the seat belt mounting bolts. Remove the seat belts. On some vehicles, a plastic cover must be removed to access the bolts.

Remove the center console if equipped. Remove the screws located on each side, also check inside the console to see if there are bolts or screws.

Remove the mounting screws to the front kick panels. Carefully remove the front kick panels.

Remove the door sill plates that hold the edge of the carpet in place.

Remove any other components in the way, such as electrical wires, fuse panel cover, or transmission shifter handle.

Remove the carpet from the vehicle by pulling the carpet in one corner and working around the edges until the entire carpet is removed.

Remove and clean any debris that is underneath the old carpet. Also check to see if any parts are sticking up that could catch on the new carpet.

Install the new carpet in the vehicle by first laying the new carpet over the old to verify the size. Precut any new holes that you may need.

Once the carpet is laid in the vehicle, cut the holes for the seatbelts and seats if they are not already cut. Cut an x shape where the bolts will need to go. This will allow the bolts to go right through and can be covered up.

You can use a 3-M adhesive spray to help hold the carpet along the edges.

Install and tighten the sill trim panels and all interior trim panels.

Reinstall the seats and center console if equipped. Torque the seat bolts to manufacturer specifications.

Check the finished work to make sure all edges and corners are snug and all screws and bolts are tightened.

Reinstall the floor mats.

Reconnect the battery.
