Camshaft Followers & Lash Adjusters Details For Ford F series Truck?


The procedure is similar for both ford and Lincoln car models:-----

Camshaft Roller Follower



Removal & Installation
4.6L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the valve covers. 
  4. Position the piston of the cylinder being serviced at the bottom of its travel.
  5. Install the special tool (303-382) between the valve spring coils to protect the valve stem seal from damage.
  6. Using a proper tool (303-452), compress the valve spring and remove the follower. 
    NOTE
    The camshaft roller followers must be installed in their original locations. Record the camshaft roller follower locations.


    NOTE
    The 3 rearmost camshaft roller followers on the RH side must use special tool 303-567 in the same manner as is shown in the illustration.

  7. Repeat the previous steps for each of the camshaft roller followers being serviced.
To install:
  1. Position the piston of the cylinder being serviced at the bottom of its travel.
  2. Install the special tool (303-382) between the valve spring coils to protect the valve stem seal from damage.
  3. Apply clean engine oil to the rocker arm, valve stem tip and tappet bore.
    NOTE
    Valve tappet should have no more than 1 / 16 inch (1.5mm) of travel before installing the rocker arm.
  4. Compress the valve spring using the correct tool and install the follower.
  5. Repeat the previous steps for each of the camshaft roller followers being serviced.
5.4L & 6.8L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the valve covers. See -Valve (Rocker Arm) Covers- in this section.
  4. Rotate the crankshaft until the piston for the valve being serviced is at the top of its stroke with the intake valve and the exhaust valves closed.
    CAUTION
    If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in the same positions. Mark the components for installation into their original locations.
  5. Using the special tool, compress the valve spring and remove the camshaft roller follower.

  6. Repeat the previous 2 steps for each camshaft roller follower being serviced.
    NOTE
    On 6.8L engine, when removing roller follower on cylinder No. 7 or 10 intake cam, remove the 2 bolts and the camshaft roller follower

  7. Inspect the camshaft roller follower; replace as necessary.
To install:

CAUTION
If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed into their original locations.


NOTE
Lubricate the camshaft roller follower with clean engine oil prior to installation.

  1. Using the special tool, compress the valve spring and install the camshaft roller follower.
  2. Lubricate the camshaft roller follower with clean engine oil prior to installation.
  3. Repeat the previous steps for each camshaft roller follower being serviced.
  4. Install the valve cover(s).
