Overhaul INNER CV-JOINT & OUTER CV-JOINT on Toyota?

The details mentioned are similar for both Toyota Land Cruiser and Toyota Sequoia car models.


Overhaul
INNER CV-JOINT
OUTER CV-JOINT
Step by Step instructions are as follows :----



Inner CV-Joint:----
Remove or disconnect the following:

Halfshaft from the vehicle
Grease boot clamps
Outer race snapring
Outer race
Shaft snapring
Inner race, cage and balls


To install:

Install or connect the following:

Inner race, cage and balls
Shaft snapring
Outer race
Outer race snapring

Fill the outer race and the grease boot with CV-joint grease and tighten the boot clamps.
Install the axle halfshaft.

Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
Remove or disconnect the following:

Halfshaft from the vehicle
Large boot clamps
Small boot clamps

Matchmark inboard CV-joint to the shaft
Remove or disconnect the following:

Inboard CV-joint from the shaft by expanding the snapring
Both CV-joint boots
Outer dust seal, using a shop press and tool 09950-00020
Outer dust cover, using a shop press and tool 09950-00020


To install:

Install or connect the following:

Outer dust cover, using a screwdriver and a hammer
Outer dust seal, using a screwdriver and a hammer

Wrap the shaft splines with tape to protect the boot from damage.
Install or connect the following:

Both CV-joint boots with clamps, temporarily
Inboard CV-joint to the shaft by aligning the matchmarks and expanding the snapring

Lubricate the outboard joint with 7.23-7.94 oz. (205-225g) grease, provided in the boot kit.
Lubricate the inboard joint with 6.70-7.41 oz. (190-210g) grease, provided in the boot kit.
Install or connect the following:

Both joint boots making sure the boots are in the shaft groove
Standard halfshaft length is 20.531-20.689 in. (521.5-525.5mm) when the shaft is not expanded or contracted
Large inboard boot clamp
All other boot clamps using tool 09521-24010. Tighten the crimping tool until the clamp clearance is 0.039-0.059 in. (1.0-1.5mm)

Outer CV-Joint


The outer CV-joint is serviced with the axle shaft as an assembly. The outer CV-joint boot can be serviced by removing the inner CV-joint.

The outer CV-joint is serviced with the axle shaft as an assembly. The outer CV-joint boot can be serviced by removing the inner CV-joint.
