How To Replace Engine On Ford Ranger?

Engine Replacing for Ford Ranger is as follows:---


Engine
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Procedure is mentioned below:---

2.3L engine, 3.0L engine , 4.0L engine.

3.0L Engine
Specific to:
Ford Ranger 2008
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Drain the engine oil.
  5. Properly discharge the air conditioning system.

  6. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
    The fan clutch has left-hand threads.


    NOTE
    Mark one stud and the flexplate for installation reference.



    Hood
    Air cleaner outlet tube
    Upper and the lower radiator hoses



    The fan clutch and blade as an assembly
    Drive belt
    Fan shroud
    Radiator
    Air conditioning manifold and tube. Remove the nut and position the line aside.
    Air conditioning compressor wiring
    Accessory drive belt tensioner
    The bolts and set the A/C compressor, the power steering pump and the mounting bracket aside as an assembly.
    Alternator wiring and position aside
    2 in-line electrical connectors
    Ground cable
    Fuel lines
    PCM connectors
    PCM ground strap
    Both heated oxygen sensors
    All vacuum lines
    MAF sensor
    LH heated oxygen sensor
    Dual converter Y pipe
    Starter motor and the starter grounding stud bolt
    Disconnect the RH and LH catalyst monitor sensor



    Torque converter access plate
    4 torque converter nuts
    Knock Sensor (KS) electrical connector
    the nuts and position the fuel tube bracket aside
    8 transmission-to-engine bolts
  7. Install the lifting eyes.
  8. Remove the four nuts.
  9. Support the transmission with a floor jack.
  10. Remove the engine from the vehicle.

  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Engine mount nuts: 80 ft. lbs. (109 Nm)
    Transmission-to-engine bolts: 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
    Torque converter nuts: 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm)
    Manifold-to-dual converter: Y-pipe nuts: 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
    Starter motor bolts: 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
    A/C compressor and power steering bracket bolts: 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm)
    Accessory drive belt tensioner bolt: 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm)
2.3L Engine
Specific to:
Ford Ranger 2008-2009
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4. Drain the cooling system.
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6. Properly discharge the air conditioning system.

  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Hood
    Air cleaner tube
    Upper radiator hose
    Lower radiator hose
    Fan and shroud
    PCM electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut on the harness clamp. Position the harness on the engine.
    Ground stud for the PCM
    Heater hoses
    All vacuum hoses
    Coolant reservoir hoses
    Air conditioning compressor clutch connector
    MAF electrical connector
    Air conditioning compressor manifold, plug the lines and the compressor ports
    Accelerator and speed control cables
    Power steering return hose
    PSP switch electrical connector
    High pressure power steering hose and PSP switch electrical connector
    Fuel supply tube
    Brake booster vacuum hose and the engine ground strap
    Starter wiring harness clamp bolt and position it out of the way.
    RH splash shield
    Alternator electrical connections
    Block heater electrical connector
    With automatic transmission, the bolt retaining the transmission cooling tubes to the engine. Remove the bracket.
    Transmission dust shield
    Exhaust manifold-to-front pipe nuts.
    Engine wiring pushpins and position the engine wiring harnesses out of the way.
    Oil pressure sensor electrical connector
    Oil filter and the oil filter adapter
    Oxygen sensors electrical connectors
    Evaporative purge hose
    Brake booster vacuum hose and the engine ground strap
    Positive battery cable
    Solenoid control wire at the starter
    Front heated oxygen sensor electrical connector at the bell housing
    Oil pressure sensor electrical connector
    Transmission dust shield
    Starter motor at the rear of the transmission
    Vehicle speed sensor, transmission range sensor, backup light switch and the transmission electrical connectors. Disconnect the pushpins and position the harness forward to the engine.
    With automatic transmission, the four torque converter nuts, mark one stud and the flex plate for assembly reference.
    Transmission-to-engine bolts, leave the 2 side bolts in until the engine is ready to be removed.
    Vehicles with an automatic transmission, remove the transmission fluid indicator and tube
  8. Support the transmission with a floor jack.
  9. Support the engine with a floor crane using a spreader bar.
  10. Remove the two side transmission-to-engine bolts.
  11. Remove the four engine support insulator nuts.
  12. Remove the engine from the vehicle.

  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Torque converter nuts: 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm)
    Nine transmission-to-engine bolts 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm)
    Oil filter adapter: 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
    Starter: 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
    Engine support nuts: 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm)
    Exhaust front pipe: 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
4.0L Engine
Specific to:
Ford Ranger 2008-2009
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    If the fuel supply manifold is used as a leverage device, damage may occur to the supply manifold. Care must be taken when working around the fuel supply manifold.
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4. Drain the cooling system.
  5. Drain the engine oil and remove the filter
  6. Properly discharge the air conditioning system.

  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
    Rotating the crankshaft pulley bolt counterclockwise could cause a reduction in clamp load on the crankshaft pulley and timing sprocket, which may cause severe engine damage.



    Spark plug wires and retainers
    Hood
    Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector
    Radiator, the fan blade, and the fan shroud
    Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) housing cover
    If the vehicle is equipped with A/C, disconnect the A/C connectors
    Power steering pressure hose
    Power steering return hose
    Remove the 4 power steering pump and A/C compressor bracket bolts and the bracket, the A/C compressor, if equipped, the power steering pump and the power steering reservoir as an assembly
    Alternator wiring and position aside
    2 engine wiring harness electrical connectors
    Engine ground wire nut
    Evaporative Emission (EVAP) hose from the purge valve
    crankcase breather hose and vacuum hoses
    Heater hoses
    Vehicles with an automatic transmission, remove the transmission fluid indicator tube nut
    Starter motor
    Oil pressure switch electrical connector
    LH and RH Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) electrical connector
    Transmission electrical connectors.
    the bolt and position the transmission cooling tube bracket aside



    4 torque converter nuts.
    LH and RH Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)
    4 exhaust manifold-to-dual converter Y-pipe nuts
    If equipped with A/C, remove the A/C tube bracket nut and position it aside
    8 transmission-to-engine bolts.
    RH and LH engine insulator nuts

  8. Install the Engine Lifting Bracket on the LH side of the engine.
  9. Remove the heater tube front bolt.
  10. Install the engine lifting bracket using the previously removed bolt.
  11. Install the spreader bar to the engine lifting brackets.
  12. Position a floor jack under the bell housing of the transmission.
  13. Attach a floor crane to the spreader bar and remove the engine.
  14. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    LH and RH engine insulator nuts: 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm)
    4 exhaust manifold-to-dual converter: Y-pipe nuts: 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
    Transmission-to-engine bolts: 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm)
    Torque converter nuts: 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm)
    Starter motor bolts: 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
