Transfer Case Replacing on Toyota Sequoia and Land Cruiser?

The details mentioned below are similar for both Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia car models.

Transfer Case Removal & Installation Step by Step details with diagrams are as follows :----


  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Drain the transfer case oil.
  3. Place the shift lever in the H position and the one-touch 2-4 switch OFF.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Shift lever
    Skid plate
    Oil from the transfer case
    Exhaust pipes
    Front and rear driveshafts
    Crossmember
    Rear engine mount
    All wiring connectors
  5. Support the transfer case, remove the case-to-adapter bolts and lower the transfer case.
  6. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the following torques:

    Transfer case-to-adapter bolts: 17 ft. lbs. (24Nm)
    Engine rear mount-to-adapter: 48 ft. lbs. (65Nm)
    Crossmember: 53 ft. lbs. (72Nm)
    Engine rear mount set bolts: 13 ft. lbs. (18Nm)
    Skid plate: 13 ft. lbs. (18Nm)

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Drain the transfer case oil.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transfer case protector
    Front and rear driveshafts
    Transfer case shift lever rod
    Ground cable
    Transmission mount crossmember. Support the transmission with a jack.
    Transfer case vent hose
    Vehicle Speed (VSS) sensor connector
    Center differential lock indicator switch connector
    Motor actuator connectors
    Transfer case adapter bolts
    Transfer case
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Transfer case. Tighten the adapter bolts to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm).
    Motor actuator connectors
    Center differential lock indicator switch connector
    VSS sensor connector
    Transfer case vent hose
    Transmission mount crossmember. Tighten the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) and the nuts to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
    Ground cable
    Transfer case shift lever rod
    Front driveshaft. Tighten the fasteners to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
    Rear driveshaft. Tighten the fasteners to 78 ft. lbs. (106 Nm).
    Transfer case protector
  2. Fill the transfer case to the correct level.
