How To Replace Compressor On Ford Ranger?

The Compressor replacing details are as follows:----


Removal & Installation details are for :---
2.3L ENGINE
4.0L ENGINE
3.0L ENGINE


2.3L Engine



Specific to:
Ford Ranger 2008-2009

WARNING
If installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must flush A/C system or compressor failure will result.


NOTE
If A/C flushing equipment is available, carry out flushing of the A/C system prior to installing a new A/C compressor.


NOTE
If A/C flushing equipment is not available, carry out filtering of the A/C system after a new A/C compressor has been installed. Install a new evaporator core orifice. Install a new suction accumulator.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Recover the refrigerant.
  3. Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.
  4. Disconnect the clutch field coil electrical connector.
  5. Loosen the A/C compressor manifold bolt and detach compressor manifold and tube assembly. Discard the O-ring seals.
  6. Remove the A/C compressor bolts and the A/C compressor.

To install:
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure and note the following:

    Install new O-ring seals.
    Tighten A/C compressor bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    Tighten A/C compressor manifold bolt 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.
    Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system.
A/C Refrigerant and Oil charge Specifications:


PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R-134a Systems) Fill Capacity: 9 fl oz.
R-134a Refrigerant Fill Capacity: 2.07 lbs.

4.0L Engine



Specific to:
Ford Ranger 2008-2009

WARNING
If installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must flush A/C system or compressor failure will result.


NOTE
If A/C flushing equipment is available, carry out flushing of the A/C system prior to installing a new A/C compressor.


NOTE
If A/C flushing equipment is not available, carry out filtering of the A/C system after a new A/C compressor has been installed. Install a new evaporator core orifice. Install a new suction accumulator.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Recover the refrigerant.
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
  4. Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.
  5. Remove the 2 power steering reservoir bolts and position the reservoir aside.
  6. Remove the 2 power steering reservoir bracket bolts and remove the bracket.
  7. Disconnect the clutch field coil electrical connector.
  8. Loosen the A/C compressor manifold bolt and detach the manifold and tube. Discard the O-ring seals.
  9. Remove the retaining pins and position the inner fender well splash shield aside.
  10. Remove the A/C compressor nuts.
  11. Remove the A/C compressor studs
  12. Remove the A/C compressor bolts and the A/C compressor.

To install:
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure and note the following:

    Install new O-ring seals.
    Tighten A/C compressor bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    Tighten A/C compressor Nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    Tighten A/C compressor studs to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
    Tighten A/C compressor manifold bolt 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.
    Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system.
A/C Refrigerant and Oil charge Specifications:


PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R-134a Systems) Fill Capacity: 9 fl oz.
R-134a Refrigerant Fill Capacity: 2.07 lbs.

3.0L Engine



Specific to:
Ford Ranger 2008

WARNING
If installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must flush A/C system or compressor failure will result.


NOTE
If A/C flushing equipment is available, carry out flushing of the A/C system prior to installing a new A/C compressor.

  4. Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.

  6. Remove the compressor manifold and tube assembly bracket nut.
  7. Loosen the compressor manifold bolt and detach the compressor manifold and tube assembly. Discard the O-ring seals
  8. Remove the A/C compressor bolts and the A/C compressor.

To install:
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure and note the following:

    Install new O-ring seals.
    Tighten A/C compressor bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    Tighten A/C compressor manifold bolt 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.
