Water Pump
Removal & Installation Step by step :---

CAUTION

NEVER drain coolant directly onto the ground! NEVER open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.

1NZ-FE Engines

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   
   
   Negative battery cable

   Accessory drive belt

   Water pump pulley, using a holding tool

   Water pump and gasket (3 bolts; 2 nuts)

To install:

1. Install or connect:
   
   
   Water pump, with a new gasket. Torque the nuts and bolts to 96 inch lbs. (11 Nm).

   Pulley. Torque the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).

   Drive belt

   Negative battery cable
2. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
3. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

1ZZ-FE Engine

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   
   
   Negative battery cable

   Right-hand engine under cover

   Drive belt

   Water pump

To install:

1. Install or connect the following: 
   
   
   Water pump. Bolts marked A (short): 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm). Bolts markedB (long): 96 inch lbs. (11 Nm).

2. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
3. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

2zz-Ge And 2zz-FE Engines

   Negative battery cable

   Right-hand engine under cover

   Drive belt

   Water pump pulley

   Water pump and O-ring

To install:

1. Install or connect the following:
   
   
   Water pump with new O-ring. Bolts: 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).

   Water pump pulley. Bolts: 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).

   Drive belt

   Right engine under cover

   Negative battery cable
2. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
3. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

2ZZ-GE Engine

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   
   
   Negative battery cable

   Right-hand engine under cover

   Drive belt

   Water pump pulley

   Water pump and O-ring

To install:

1. Install or connect the following:
   
   
   Water pump with new O-ring. Bolts: 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).

   Water pump pulley. Bolts: 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).

   Drive belt

   Right engine under cover

   Negative battery cable
2. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
3. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

4A-FE And 7A-FE Engines

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
2. Remove all drive belts.

1. Support the engine using suitable equipment.
2. Remove the right engine mount and insulator.

1. Remove the No. 3 (upper) and No. 2 (middle) timing belt covers.
2. If equipped with power steering, raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the front transaxle mounting insulator. Access the nut and through-bolt, through the hole. Lower the vehicle, remove the cooling fan assembly.

1. Remove the mounting bolt for the dipstick tube; remove the tube and dipstick. Immediately plug the hole in the block to prevent fluid from contaminating the oil.
2. If equipped, disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wiring from the dipstick guide. Remove the mounting bolt and pull out the dipstick guide and gauge. Discard the O-ring on the tube.
3. Disconnect the wiring for the water temperature sensor.
4. Remove the 2 nuts securing the engine coolant pipe to the cylinder block.
5. Loosen the clamp and remove the coolant inlet pipe.
6. Loosen the clamp and remove the coolant inlet hose from the water pump.
7. If equipped with power steering, raise the engine and remove the mounting bolts for the water pump. Remove the water pump and O-ring from the vehicle.

To install:

1. Install a new O-ring to the vehicle. Install the water pump and tighten the retaining bolts evenly to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).

1. Lower the engine if necessary, and connect the coolant hose to the water pump. Reconnect the engine coolant inlet pipe to the vehicle and secure to hose with clamp and secure to block with 2 nuts. Tighten the engine coolant inlet pipe nuts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
2. Connect the electrical wiring for the water temperature sensor.
3. Place a new O-ring on the end of the dipstick tube. Install the oil guide tube and tighten the retaining bolt to 84 inch lbs. (9 Nm). Install the oil level indicator to the guide tube.

1. Attach the crankshaft position sensor wiring to the oil dipstick guide, if removed.
2. Install the radiator fan assembly, if necessary.
3. If equipped with power steering, raise and safely support the vehicle. Install the front transaxle mount. Tighten the through bolt nut to 64 ft. lbs. (87 Nm) and 2 mount bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm). Install the hole cover.
4. Lower the vehicle (if necessary) and install the No. 3 (upper) and No. 2 (middle) timing belt covers.
5. Support the engine using suitable equipment. Install the right engine mount and insulator.
6. Remove all engine lifting equipment.
7. Install and adjust all drive belts.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Fill the cooling system. Start the engine and check for coolant leaks. Top off the system as necessary.

5S-FE Engines

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   
   
   Negative battery cable. On vehicles equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before proceeding.

   Right engine undercover

   Lower radiator hose from the water outlet

   Timing belt, timing belt tension spring, and the No. 2 idler pulley

   Alternator, drive belt and the adjusting bar if necessary

   2 nuts holding the water pump to the water bypass pipe and remove the 3 bolts in sequence.

   Water pump cover assembly

   Gasket and 2 O-rings from the water pump and the bypass pipe.

   Water pump from the water pump cover by removing the 3 bolts in sequence.

To install:

1. Install or connect the following:
   
   
   Water pump to the water pump cover. Bolts: 78 inch lbs. (9 Nm) in proper sequence.

   Water pump cover to the water bypass pipe, but do not install the nuts yet.

   Water pump and tighten the 3 bolts in sequence. Bolts: 78 inch lbs. (9 Nm). Nuts: 82 inch lbs. (9 Nm).

   Alternator drive belt adjusting bar. Bolt: 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).

   No. 2 idler pulley and the timing belt tension spring

   Lower radiator hose

   Timing belt

   Right engine undercover

   Negative battery cable
2. Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
3. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

7A-FE Engine

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION

Work must NOT be started until after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative battery cable has been disconnected. The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source so that if work is started within 90 seconds of disconnecting the negative battery cable, the SRS may deploy. When the negative terminal cable is disconnected from the battery, memory of the clock and radio will be canceled. Before you start working, make a note of the contents memorized by the audio memory system. When you have finished working, reset the audio systems and adjust the clock. Never use a back-up power supply from outside the vehicle.

1. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
2. Remove the PS drive belt and adjusting bracket.

1. Unbolt and remove the water pump pulley.
2. Remove the engine mounting center member as follows:
   1. Remove the hole cover.
   2. Remove the two bolts holding the front of the engine insulator to the engine mounting center member.
   3. Carefully jack up the engine and remove the pump pulley.
3. Remove the cylinder head cover.
4. Remove the No. 3 and No. 2 timing belt covers.
5. Disconnect the engine wire harness assembly near the water pump.

1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sender wiring.
2. Unbolt the oil dipstick guide and dipstick.
3. Remove the nuts holding the No. 2 water inlet to the cylinder head. Remove the three bolts and the water pump together with the No. 2 water inlet. Remove the O-ring from the block.

1. Separate the water pump from the No. 2 water inlet.

To install:

1. Assemble the water pump and No. 2 water pump inlet.
2. Place a new O-ring into position on the block. Place a new gasket on the cylinder head so that the upper mark is toward the upper side. Temporarily install the water pump and the No. 2 inlet with the bolts and nuts. Tighten the bolts and nuts to 11 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).

1. Install the oil dipstick guide and dipstick.
2. Connect the engine wiring harness and secure.
3. Install the No. 2 and No. 3 timing belt covers. Attach and secure the cylinder head cover also.
4. Install the water pump pulley.
5. Install and secure the engine mounting center member. tighten the bolts to 59 ft. lbs. 980 Nm).
6. Install the PS drive belt adjusting strut and secure the bolts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm). Install and adjust the PS belt.
7. Refill the cooling system.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Start the engine and check for leaks. Top off the cooling system.
