The procedure is similar for both ford and Lincoln car models:-----
Crankshaft Front Seal
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Procedure is for Ford F series Truck models and Lincoln Mark LT car models.
4.2L Engine:--
Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft front seal. Discard the crankshaft front seal.
- Remove the crankshaft pulley.
- Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft front seal. Discard the crankshaft front seal.
To install:
- Inspect the crankshaft damper and the engine front cover for damage that may cause the crankshaft front seal to fail.
NOTELubricate the crankshaft front seal with clean engine oil. - Using the special tools, install the crankshaft front seal.
- Install the crankshaft pulley. For additional information, refer to -Crankshaft Damper- in this section.
To install:
- Lubricate the engine front cover and the crankshaft front seal inner lip with clean engine oil.
- Using the special tools, install the crankshaft front seal.
- Install the crankshaft pulley.
- Remove the crankshaft vibration damper. For additional information, refer to Crankshaft Damper in this section.
- Punch two holes in the seal.
- Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft seal.
NOTEProduction engines will not have a wear sleeve.
- If equipped, remove the crankshaft seal wear sleeve.
To install:
- Thoroughly clean the crankshaft front seal mounting surface.
- Apply High Strength Threadlocker to the outer circumference of the leading edge of the crankshaft.
NOTENew seal and wear sleeve must not be separated. - Using the special tool, install the oil seal and wear sleeve assembly.
- Install the crankshaft damper. For additional information, refer to Crankshaft Damper in this section.
