Specific to:
Ford Ranger 2008-2009
NOTE
The Catalytic Converter is part of the down pipe assembly.
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
- Disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) electrical connectors.
- Remove the 2 exhaust downpipe-to-muffler and tail pipe assembly bolts, 2 flag nuts and gasket. Discard the flag nuts and gasket.
- Remove the 2 exhaust downpipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts. Discard the nuts.
- Remove the transmission mount and isolator-to-transmission bolt and remove the exhaust downpipe.
WARNINGDo not use oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators. These lubricants may cause deterioration of the rubber. This can lead to separation of the isolator from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation.
To install:
- Clean all the mating surface of the exhaust downpipe.
- Position the exhaust downpipe into the vehicle and install the transmission mount and isolator-to-transmission bolt. Tighten the bolt to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
- Install the 2 new exhaust downpipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
- Install a new exhaust downpipe-to-muffler and tail pipe assembly gasket.
- Install the 2 exhaust downpipe-to-muffler and tail pipe assembly bolts and 2 new flag nuts. Tighten the nuts to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
- Connect the HO2S and CMS electrical connectors.
- Check to see if the exhaust system isolators are at zero load.
